Get abit pissed off with the slagging off of Hughes signings think all of them have been good, maybe abit overpriced due to our status with only RSC being dubious more due to his injury record than his performances!

Its called a step up in the right direction!

Theres no way we were going to attract top world class players with money alone straight away!!

Maybe this transfer window hopefully with the added incentive of Champions League football we will be able to attract the next higherr level of player and so on an so on!

Name me any premiership team who wouldnt wont Tevez, Ade, Bellamy, Given, Kompany or De Jong in there team even Zab and Bridge!!

Not many!!

I think he did ok given the resorces at his diposal, but he did leave us wanting in certain areas.
The relentless persuit of RSC was a bit emabarassing, he stuck solely to PL players. Id of thought a couple of signings in key areas from talent abroad was an 'obvious' option.
For me he played it too safe and lacked in his scouting skills.
He left us with no playmaker which is ridiculous, we are finding it difficult at times to compensate for the lack of.

Yeah agree with some of this.

His scouting skills, before the money came in re Zab and Kompany cant be questioned surely!

Re the playmaker maybe he was hoping Michael Johnson would fill that role unfortunately he got injured!!

Do agree though think he should of made a gamble or two re players from abroad as I dont hink it would of mattered if they workedor not. Maybe an Arshavin or Moderic for examples!!

Johnson's the box to box midfielder we're missing. He's the only 'complete' midfielder at the club.

To even try and shift the blame for the lack of decent players in key area`s on to Mancini when he has had ONE transfer window is a joke right?.

Nevermind that due to injuries and ACN he had not seen a lot of his sqaud play in the weeks leading up to it, he still went for the right type of player without resorting to the shotgun panic buying that our ex dogs bast*rd numpty hughes followed.

He targeted three, got one that was f*cked up by the work permit rules, and has had to muddle on using tactics to cover a team without a midfield, while loseing players to "Vidio evidence" and injurys that were bought with the player thanks to that dogs bast*rd again.

Last night was another one that should count against numpty

I was a big Hughes IN person, so not being biased, and I know he had his faults but after tonight Im really pissed off. I genuinely think we'd have beaten utd over two legs and we'd be better off if he had stayed. YES defensively we had problems under him (more down to personnel) but we ALWAYS looked dangerous going forward and like a team with goals in them, tonight we never looked like scoring and I have seen enough.

Hughes has gone so im not going to bleat on about this, but I just don't rate Bobbi Manc.....

discuss.
I agree. Was no big fan one way or the other with Hughes, if anything, undecided. Think there are good things about Manc, the way he has the bollocks to try fringe players, substitute and change his formation, things Hughes seem to lack. However, I enjoyed the football/excitement under Hughes. I am not enjoying the matches. Even against fulham, wasn't happy to see the way we played against a team who just wasn't up for it, and then when they was, when they scored the goal, we struggled.

Even when we got beat, you had the sense that Hughes would be able to get the defence right eventually.

There's too much harsh criiticism of our playing staff going on for me at the moment - in terms of their ability, not performances.

Barry and De jong start every game for England and Holland. Ireland is a top quality young player. Zableta and Kompany can fill in. Our wide players are some of the best in the league.

Maybe we're a player short there but Vieira was not the answer.

The above isn't a criticism of our players, 'one-dimensional' I agree isn't a glowing review but that doesn't mean those players can't be successful when surrounded by players to compliment them.

We haven't got the right blend. That's my point.

I can buy that. But you could argue that's down to the way they are being played/shaped....

Ha! Hughes was given the biggest resources given to any football manager ever. I agree with the rest, though.

Agree with this except Im not sure Hughes would have got the defence right eventually!

The only way I can see them being complimented is a 4 3 3 with Ireland in a midfield three with Barry and De Jong/Vieira.

Problem is, Ireland and Tevez then start to get in each other's way and the one thing we have to do at the moment is play to Tevez's strengths and not hamper his role.

Apart from that, the options in midfield are just replacing like-for-like.

Good post, and kind of sums up this season. We've never really solved that connundrum.

Stupid, utterly pointless thread.

There were plenty of games under the welsh muppet where we were clueless going forward, we would be worse off now if he hadn't been sacked.

Sometimes I think some people can only fit 3 games into their tiny memories meaning they forget the utterly shit performances.

Correct. I was a big Hughes-inner. However, he has indeed gone, and we have to get behind Mancini. Has the past 30-odd years of changing managers willy-nilly not taught us anything? It doesn't work. I said that during Hughes' reign, and I'll say it for whoever is occupying the electric chair, sorry, managerial hot-seat!

For what its worth, I prefer Mancini.

He came in and immediately made us more organised and in the window was looking at the midfield which is definately where we are struggling. We very rarely dominate midfield and lack mobility to support going forward.

We looked more like scoring under MH but we had Adebayor available and playing well, we also had SWP playing a lot better.

I like the way Mancini at leaset tries to change it early when it's not going well.

My main beef with Mancini is he keeps playing one up front and i don't think we have the midfield players to play this formation, we look a lot better when Tevez plays alongside Ade or RSC.

Totally agree, he got obsessed with the "proven in England" thing and we ended with some overpriced players and some top four reject!

BB is right. It was definitely the wrong decision to get rid of Hughes. Mancini's 5 losses (and getting knocked out of both cups) compared to Hughes' 2 losses is just one of many reasons why, but he's gone now and it's time to back Bobby. Stability is key to us doing well.

The passion he showed with Gollum has gave me a better feeling about him too.

I'm not after an argument at this time but how can you say categorically that it was the wrong decision?
