Hugo Viana | Director of Football

We see Bernardo’s contribution very differently.
I don’t think Bernardo is the problem…..it’s the combination when he is paired with Gundogan against the better teams.

We can only afford one in the starting 11.

I think Bernardo has still got great energy and his ball retention is second to none.

For what it’s worth I still think Gundogan has a place in the squad but not as a starter.

That was the luckiest spell he has ever had in charge . Outplayed for the most part with other teams just unable to put the ball in the net . Crystal Palace at home an example. A circus . They should have been 4 nil up . Forest in the cup another example . Luck finally ran out in the final.
If we use these measures, he therefore had the unluckiest spell he has ever had for most of the season, so couldn't be blamed for being in that position in the first place. We can all play subjective bingo.

Unluckiest spell ? What a cop out . It was on the manager and the club not investing . Being too loyal to players whose bodies were not able . Not signing a Rodri back up thinking he could play another 60 games etc .

Don't know about over there bud but schools out here in Scotland with England & Wales running the clock down. You can always tell.
Been so long since I, or my adult kids, had to worry about school calendars, I hadn’t noticed. Thanks for pointing out his teachers weren’t keeping an eye on him!

They both have roles to play. The question is whether Pep can afford those two as foreign slots next season.

My hope is that Gundo can end his career in Turkey, and go with our sincere thanks.

Pep made Bernardo the Club Captain, so it’s hard to envisage him going anywhere any time soon, not to mention he plays about 3 or 4 positions almost every game, as Pep uses his utility to rearrange the team with, and without, subs.

Yes. Great start & he’s probably plotting more right now
Ooops that was quick - McAtee gone. Sad to lose him but he’s had a a couple of seasons on loan at Sheffield & hadn’t really been able to replace any of our existing players.

100% awesome additions.

I think questions will and should be asked regarding Khusanov, Reis and Nico G however. £120m or so worth of players there and none can get a game.
Khusanov came on as sub vs Wolves and is learning, Reis is very young and has gone out on loan to learn. Nico G started vs Wolves and played really well.
You gotta give new players a chance. All three came in the middle of the season which is not ideal. Patience will let us see just what they have.

Based on the last few weeks I'd be feckin amazed if Khusanov/Reis and Gonzales are still around come September.
For whatever reason Pep just isn't interested in playing them - so no sense them hanging around.
I wonder if there's a disconnect between Viana working on "data" signings (assuming he had input in January), and what Guardiola actually sees. If that is the case we're screwed until one of them leaves
Of those three, one started and one came on as sub vs Wolves, so be amazed.
Pep knows what he is doing.

What a start for him. New signings all shining today.

It’s mad to think we got Cherki, Reijnders and Ait-Nouri for the price of Wirtz.
Glad this post has been resurrected, superb day for HV yesterday and can see the quality these new players have. Positive.

Hugo is building his vision now and probably easier with txiki not around?

I'd say so, yeah.

At the end of the day, he's his own DoF, the club will have known that and likely interviewed a load of people interested in joining but were on board with Viana's vision above any.

It's exciting times. Again.

Absolutely! A lovely mixture of younger next gen talent and now seemingly ready made stars like Reijnders, Ait Nouri and hopefully Donnarumma and Rodrygo
