Hurricane Harvey

I once read, whether it's true or not, that the "seeding ground" for most hurricanes, is a moist valley in the Cape Verde islands in the South Atlantic. This moist air is blown off-shore by the Trade winds, and more moisture is picked up as it crosses the Atlantic. The barometric pressure in the centre drops, and the air begins to rotate, and becomes self-feeding.
As I said, how true this is, I haven't a clue. If it is true, nuke the valley to the ground. Job sorted!

Just watched a weather lady on MSNBC say roughly the same thing!!

Watching the reporters say they're leaving in a couple of hours means it's serious!!

They're usually the goons that risk it!!

How's the situation right now? My Bro is scheduled to take off from Houston International at 7pm this evening to attend our dad's funeral. From what you know, does it look like the flight will be able to take off?
Sorry to hear about your dad. As of right now, the airport is open and plans to stay open for now probably due to the slow moving speed of the storm. Of course that could change!

Probably no chance I'll have power to watch the match tomorrow morning (6:30 AM KO here). I'll have to rely on updates from the matchday thread. Could be scarier than the storm if we don't score early!

We survived tropical storm Andrea in 2013 does that count, 10 bottles of bud around the pool closed that villa up tight and woke up in the morning with a lot of puddles and palm leaves about.

My mate lives in Galveston and he's just been doing Facebook live from his balcony, saying there's a lot of fear mongering as it's fairly calm. Still early days isn't it?

They're a little crazy in Galveston but they're a bit east of the major action. It's further down the coast (Corpus Christi) but now a Cat 3 with 120 mph winds so nothing to mess around with. Plus the flooding rains.
