'Hurricane' - The Poles recognised at last

Funny you should mention that,if I remember correctly it was a few years back but Hollywood was going to make a blockbuster based on the Battle of Britain only problem was they wanted to rewrite history and portray the yanks as the saviours, never got off the ground due to the outcry ( if I remember right) and rightly so ...

Have you not had the misfortune to see the abomination that was the film Pearl Harbour? In which American aces Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett fight in every theatre of WW2 including joining Eagle Squadron.

Hahahahaha yes,it may have been this film that give them the idea...wasn’t the lovely Kate Beckinsale in this ..

The Polish people suffered the most cynical betrayal of the war when the advancing Russian army agreed a date with the Warsaw insurgents for the relief of the city, and then waited for the Germans to crush the resistance before attacking, and then executing captured Polish pow officers, and for many years claimed it was a nazi war crime. Eventually the truth was admitted but no-one was charged

Well Hollywood is used to re-righting history, Memphis Belle is based on a book (I think called bomber) and the bomber in the book is a Lancaster.

Bomber was a Len Deighton book based on a fictitious air raid and a mighty good read. The B17 named Memphis Belle was a real aircraft who's crew were one of the first to complete a full tour of 25 combat missions so the film of the same name was actually based loosely on some truth - Bomber is another story which was beautifully dramatised by Radio 4 a few years back.

The film Hurricane due out tells the story of the Poles who fought in the RAF in the Battle of Britain and right through to the end of WW2. In that battle they were the most successful, downed more Germans with least losses in ratio to their numbers, their reward at the end was to be ignored and basically told to eff off back to Poland.

Unsurprising when you consider how Alan Turing was treated.

Had an airfix hurricane as a kid, always prefered it to the spitfire, glad their is some recognition of both the plane and mutinational pilots that flew them.
