because...

I'm a first time voter so have watched the debates etc. and trawled through the BBC online stuff and came to the conclusion that...I like the Conservatives best. But I see on here and in everyday life that quite a lot of people have a bitter hatred of them and to be honest it scares me, some people's hatred of them is very strong, and so public a few times I feel that I'd fear for my own safety admitting voting for them.

So what do I do? I don't like the Lib Dems because I disagree over Trident, immigration amnesty's and the sheer fact some people on here would actually vote for them because of safe standing, which I find ridiculous. And Labour has in my opinion made an utter mess and I don't think Gordon Brown should be PM because in my opinion Labour should have been forced to call an election after Blair stepped down because people voted for a Labour Government headed by Blair, not Brown, who also became head of the party unopposed by seemingly bullying other party members into not challenging, which is undemocratic in itself.

So yeah, what do I do? I don't want to spoil my vote as to me that's pointless and I wouldn't consider voting for anyone outside the 3 main parties. Advice welcome.

Vote for the party you agree with, screw what everyone else thinks. You don't have to tell anyone who you voted for.

Mate there's absolutely nothing wrong in voting Conservative if thats where your preference lies.
And like Pee Dubya says, nobody has to know who you vote for.
Personally I tell people but most choose not to as its supposed to be a private matter anyway.<br /><br />-- Tue May 04, 2010 4:31 pm --<br /><br />Just seen your post PB.

Nice one for trying to influence a young first time voter.

......and then being utterly hypocritical by accusing others of doing precisely what you have just done.

Vote tory if that's how you feel.

Then PM me your address and I'll pop round and beat you to a pulp. ;)

use this:

<a class="postlink" href="http://election.theyworkforyou.com/quiz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://election.theyworkforyou.com/quiz</a>

see which candidates in your area agree with you. [the tories refused to participate in it though]

or

<a class="postlink" href="http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/survey/select" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/survey/select</a>

see which policies you agree with.

alternatively you can spoil your ballot, show your distaste with an undemocratic system which serves to strengthen itself and not represent us - get out and organise amongst real people and make change yourself......your choice! ;)

read a decent newspaper
Gary younge in todays guardian

I hate them for a reason. For lots of reasons, actually. For the miners, apartheid, Bobby Sands, Greenham Common, selling council houses, Section 28, lining the pockets of the rich and hammering the poor – to name but a few. I hate them because they hate people I care about. As a young man Cameron looked out on the social carnage of pit closures and mass unemployment, looked at Margaret Thatcher's government and thought, these are my people. When all the debating is done, that is really all I need to know

In the interests of balance would it not be fair to point out to the OP that The Grauniad is hardly the most unbiased of newspapers? Also, calling it a quality one is pushing it a bit ;-)

TLOB.... you vote for who you want to. Don't be swayed by anyone, whether they are left, right, middle, or mad.
