I see Soriano and co. have been briefing the press recently...

There's quite a big caveat with the Messi stories - IF, he ever left Barcelona it would be to come here. So that means he's not thinking about it at this moment in time but maybe a couple of years down the line, which whilst still great, it's not quite peak powers Messi.
I think Messi would be a waste of good money in a couple of years from a football perspective anyway. From what I have seen of him lately he is already on the way down. Which of course still makes him better than everybody else but the Premier League might be a bridge too far for him in a couple of years.

He's arguably had his best season to date this year so not sure I agree with him being on the wane. He's still going to be the best player in the world in two years but I agree with the sentiment. Paying huge money for a 31 year old wouldn't make much sense. If the deal wasn't made in the next 12 months I'd be looking to go down a different route.

We might gave a chance of getting him when hes 32 personably i wouldn't want him then but commercially it would be a no brainer even at 32

I think the club will move heaven and earth for Neymar rather than Messi, he is THE next big name in football as far as merchandising, branding etc go and arguably would be worth the 100 million+ he would cost the club due to age alone.

now they have been briefing the press about Messi

So now we are going to sign Messi ... all smoke and mirrors designed to deflect attention from uproar regarding PSG and season ticket prices

So after a bad result we are going for Messi?

Looks like a rag PR stunt with Tranny in the frame when they need some sales.

They must think we were all born yesterday, this is the trick the vermin pull all the time.
'Manchester City are confident they are Lionel Messi’s first choice should he leave Barcelona, with the club’s senior executives having inquired about the Argentinian.'

Don't blindly follow what the media say without reading all of it, the OS has the correct story from Herbert at The Independant:

He goes on to say that City are realistic over a potential deal and that they '...are not actively awaiting a change of heart. Instead, they are looking for the next player of his calibre – with an acceptance that the number of individuals capable of consistently dictating the outcome of a match at the highest level is perhaps 10 across the globe.'

Have we asked? Of course, anyone capable of affording him would have asked.

Okay, so you're Ferran Soriano.
That don't impress me much...
So you got the looks but have you the human touch?
A CEO with top MBAs should be all right,
But that won't calm the fans who have to watch the current shite...
Which don't impress me much...

What worries me about all these statements and stories is are they preparing us for rises in season ticket prices and play on the our fears of what we could be missing out on if we don't sign up.

Presume they will be released anytime soon as they keep advertising corporate tickets for next season on talksport.
