When i see both Kolorov and Boatang bombing on then i might agree with you but i aint seen anything like that yet.

This mystical diamond formation which i have difficulty remembering / seeing how often have we played it this season not many i would wager -

We have had pretty much a full team the last two maybe three games and certainly the people to play the "diamond" but we aint seen it.

Sorry this team has been put together without consideration of tactics

Never said Bellars wasn't better than Milner on the left. Milner should NEVER be played on the wing (which is why I listed him as a central midfielder in my last post).

Diamond isn't that mystical. Bobby played it and won at Inter. You have not seen it this year because we haven't played it

Pretty much isn't good enough. Who would your second striker have been last weekend...Jo or RSC. Not really who I would want to start. We in fact have NOT had the personnel to play the Diamond this season. We have come close but that is not enough. Come Stoke we will for the first time. We will see if Bobby plays it.

Say what you want about Mancini, but to suggest he would build a team without consideration of tactics makes you look rather foolish.

Problem is we are never ever going to have our first choice team in any given season for long period of time - injuries suspension and loss of form all take there toll. All top teams play a given style and changing out players has only a minimal effect on the team.

So hypothetically if Ballo gets sent off at Stoke does this mean we dont have the personell to play a diamond and we therefore have to change our formation for the next game.

You aint going to get perfection and first choice players for at least 50% of the season so can i suggest that if this is the tactics then its utter bollocks

i started a thread before the season started and i said we need FIVE available good quality strikers to call on. At that time we were still in the carling cup! I said all the top teams (except arsenal) have 5 strikers to call on!
I knew tevez would be our main striker and i also knew caecido, rsc and jo could not be relied on!

I took loads of shit for this thread. I am now not gloating or happy to be proved right, anything but! but we need to address this in jan if we are to mount a serious challenge on our remaining 3 poss trophies!

If tevez suffers a serious injury tomorrow in training or goes walkabouts in argentina, who is going to play up front for us? and would you be happy with your selection fellow blues!

We need Dzeko and also one more proven striker and then ade could be the 4th! I would lose rsc and jo as quick as a fox in a henhouse! We have a long and arduous season and as the last few matches show in quick succession.

The trouble is i have no confidence bringing on rsc or jo in the 65th min at craven cottage if we are one down! Lets spend big again in jan and secure the gold at the bottom of the rainbow this year!

Can't wait for stoke away and watch mario take some pressure off king carlito!!

mancini will go after audley harrison in january, after he made no attempt to go forward and attack on saturday night... :-)

Disagree completely. Bellars...good riddance. Tevez playing off Mario with Silva as the creative tip to the diamond will work wonders...see west brom.

I would say we bought players SPECIFICALLY because of the formation we want to play.

The Diamond calls for two attacking full backs (Kolarov and Boateng)

Three holding/centeral midfielders (Yaya and Milner--added to De Jong and Barry)

Creative tip to the diamond (Silva)

Two strikers who complement each other (Balo with Tevez in the hole behind him).

Adding Dzeko and Pastore to give depth to the strikers and Silva respectively will give us the flexibility to play this formation regardless of injuries.

This team has been carefully crafted starting in June. We haven't seen its potential yet.

How can you say Kolarov is no Cole after watching him for a total of about 110 minutes?

You could suggest it, but it would make you look pretty short sighted.

It is true for the short term we can't play the diamond if all of the pieces are not fit, and unfortunately since Bobby just started buying those pieces 5 months ago, we don't have enough for two full squads. So, if Ballo is sent off then yes we do not have the personnel to play the diamond. Even with the Sheik's money it will take some time to build a squad that can play that formation on a regular basis. First and foremost we need a third striker (hopefully Dzeko) and another top of the diamond player (hopefully Pastore). It would be nice to pick up another attacking fullback but that is not as important. If either of our backs are out we can replace with a defensive minded back (Zabs) and slot AJ in front of him in the Milner spot which keeps the width we need even if it isn't a pure diamond.

I expect by the end of the Jan. window we have the personnel to play it often (certainly more than 50% of the time).

Why such a hype over Dzeko? Is he really as good as everybody paints him out to be on here? From what ive seen he looks nothing more than average.....
If anybody can prove me wrong through videos or what then please do.

Dunno whats sadder, the fact you say he's average when you clearly haven't seen him, or that you aren't capable of searching youtube...
