Bowles always had the ability and showed it on the occasions he played in the first team. His problem was the three B's - birds, booze and bookies. He always looked awkward when running like he had two left feet. The general consensus of city fans was that he was a bit crap. He went away learned his trade and became an excellent player with Forest. He was a bit like Stan Bowles in that respect.
There you go.
he was. a steady player but that was all.He was driven out by boo boys.
Amazing,we've still got that brain-dead element fan base, they've doing it to Yaya all season !He made a very good start to his career early in the 69/70, effectively replacing Tony Coleman in the starting XI, his form was so good in the first half of that season that he was seriously talked about as an outsider for the 1970 World Cup squad. When his form dipped a bit, which is almost inevitable with any young player, then as @petrusha mentioned the usual brain-dead element of our fanbase started giving him dogs abuse which was really helpful(!). His confidence dropped visibly and the following season he was mostly a sub and was sold to Orient at the end of that season. Fair play to him though he knuckled down and had the last laugh by impressing Cloughie and bagging a League title and two European Cup medals with Forest. Not the first or last youngster that we've let go only for them to prosper elsewhere.
Well for a supposedly average player he didn't do so bad. Here's what he won in his career.
Manchester City
Nottingham Forest
A few of his goals.
A very good headed equaliser against Everton
And a couple of poachers goals.
