Ian Brown

I loved the Roses, saw them first in Widnes then Warrington just before first album came out. Absolutely electric gigs. Then at the International- think it was same day we’d fucked up against Bournemouth. Again, electric gig.
Blackpool Ballroom - fantastic.
Spike Island - great
Ally Pally - shite.

Never bothered again as the “magic” had died by then.

Seen Brown solo live many times and some were absolutely brilliant, others total shite. He’s written several superb solo albums and I’ve spoken to him a few times and he was genuinely one the most self-deprecating, funny and quick-witted people you could meet. Mani lives near me and is equally funny, diffident, if not more so.
Brown’s latest gigs are pitiful but I’ll always have fondest memories of those gigs in Widnes and Warrington- magic

Is Mani back in Heaton Moor? He lived in Sale for a bit.

I went to see Ian Brown at the Empress Ballroom in 2000 and he was immense, sounded great, packed out. Then you got him doing this Karaoke thing of his hits, it's a tragic fall from grace or maybe he can't afford to pay for a band.

Loved this fella since I was 15 but just can't entertain him nowadays.

I live in the HM area and have seen him about.

Ha ha that’s quite funny - I walked out of that Blackpool gig - they had to restart one of the songs (think it was So Many Soldiers) as Brown / the band got all their timings wrong and I thought “fuck this”. I was in a bad space personally at the time so that didn’t help.
Yep, Mani is in Heston Moor. Still laugh at the time he was on Radio 5 and they had to apologise after he’d rang in one day after United had beaten Liverpool and Lucas had had a ‘mare. Mani said “He’s the worst Brazilian since David Blunkett shaved his missus’ fanny.”
He’s a very funny bloke.

I always remember him singing Billie Jean and thinking I was hearing things, I'm sure he did a couple of 'Hee hees ' too!

I love Mani, I had a beer with him in 2003 at a Cooper temple clause gig at the academy 2, was so down to earth and chatty, we talked about music and football. It was about 2 weeks or so before Glasto as he shook everyone's hand with his left hand( I presumed he didn't want anyone to injure his right hand ). He also had that black leather Adidas jacket with the red sash that he always seemed to be in in 2003.

Was so gutted about Imelda, really sad news and I felt so much for Mani, just hope he gets through it and everyone rallies round him as he's a man of the people and a top fella.

Anyone know what Reni is up to?
He seemed to be the really enigmatic one.
Despite what anyone thinks about their music, they're one of the bands that drew eyes towards Manchester and helped kickstart it's resurgence.
