ID cards.

it will. This will make it much much more difficult for individuals without legal status to gain employment.

All working adults will be required to present a digital ID when starting a new job. This ID will be linked to a central database.
Individuals without legal status don't tend to seek legal employment.

You just dont get it do you.

Naive beyond comprehension

Richard Tice, the oh, so anti immigration MP commenting on the waste of money being used on ID cards. Arguing we already have passports that do the same thing. All that is, apart from the illegal immigrants he so vehemently wants to stop. Some confusion there.

I have been stopped under section 60 at away games before and refused to give them my details as it isn't legally required, as it was getting off a connecting train obce and also in a pub garden, the police couldn't force it, now it will be mandatory and football fans especially will be targetted as with the DNA spray

I have never been section 50'd as I am a law abiding citizen.

I honestly don't see how any football fan doesn't have an issue with this the way we are still demonised.
I wouldnt be surprised if the card can be read by a scanner so they dont even have to ask permission. A situation where a copper approaches you and instantly knows everything about you.

That is by personal choice though, not enforced.

Also when we are all told it's £100 to get your ID and they put a time limit on its validity and further payments for new ones every 5 or 10 years, it will be just another con on the public masked as protecting us.

Introduce a basic plastic ID card with name, D.OB. photo I aint arsed, any chipped or biometric ones I have a passporot for that already
I wouldn't be against a plastic ID as an alternative, but a digital form would be all-encompassing and streamlined; in much the same way all my bank cards and membership cards are stored on my Google Wallet. This would essentially be a gov.uk wallet. To think the government will use this to ration your fuel or other daily expenditure is high-concentrate loopy juice.

And I could be wrong, but I don't think they'll charge for this digital ID given the furore it's already causing.

Currently that would be illegal.

Based on the track record of pretty much every government this millennium when it comes to matters digital, I look forward to the almost certain financial, benefits management and oversight clusterfuck that the procurement and delivery of this politically motivated folly will involve. I'd love to see the options analysis for all this, except I bet there isn't one.

People said that for the NHS COVID-19 app which was rolled out, that worked well.

So no card required for students, pensioners or those not seeking work.

Only compulsory for those seeking work through official channels.

Do these clowns not know there are many thousands working “ off piste”?

If it’s digital can I transfer it to another person in my friends and family or do I have to nominate 3 people who aren’t ;)

Happy to agree that was one of the better ones, albeit the first iteration had to be written off if you remember? I had a mate who was heavily involved in the programme and I had direct dealings myself with the now defunct NHSX. I don't think either of us would say it was a model of efficiency and this project we're talking about now is going to be much more complex than that one in every single dimension. Nonetheless there was a clear and urgent public health need and it's fair to say warts and all that it did it's job and the outcomes overall were good.

But this goes to the heart of my problem with this announcement. It's been stated it'll happen before the end of the parliament but it wasn't anywhere to be seen last year and it smacks of political expediency rather than a clearly defined need. That's not a good start place for a proper programme with a good benefits realisation plan. The best guess estimates seem to be about £1billion which is not huge in the scheme of things but then NPfIT was supposed to cost about £2billon and some estimates suggest it ended up x10 of that. POST itself has hardly been complementary about our track record in this space. I'll remain sceptical unless and until the government gives me some evidence to be otherwise.
