ID cards.

I think you’re reading too much into this
I dont see the purpose of them. We have N.I. numbers, we have NHS numbers, after these compulsory ID cards are imposed on us will that stop tradesmen doing a job a bit cheaper for cash? Will it stop illegal immigrants delivering food and washing cars? Will it stop smackheads shoplifting? I'm pretty sure the answer is no to all those questions. What they do do is put in place a system which could be used to control our movements, purchases and many of our freedoms in the future, whether that be next year, the next decade or whenever. It opens us up to being controlled by governments or dictators at some point in the future. What would Trump do if he had this measure of control? All it takes is a narcissist to lie his way into power and the results could be frightening.

What is it in UK that is more attractive to the boat people than say France?

Language and family ties in the main. In addition, if you are being smuggled from somewhere, the smuggler isn’t a bus driver. They will take you to where their work is I.e the U.K.

So is the boat price an extra cost or included? I ask because they are already in a European Country but insist on a dangerous crossing in secrecy.
Surely France is good enough for them or does UK offer them more?

Neither of which have photo ID associated with them
No, why would it
No, I agree it won't
Not due to be rolled out until the end of this parliament

If you are talking about ‘perks’ the UK offers very little. There must be a very good reason to did but it’s certainly not sharing a room with strangers with no cooking/cleaning facilities and the £9 a week or whatever pittance it is they get

They get fuck all, that’s why they end up in black economy

If we let them work in certain industries it could perhaps help the economy. But that’s politically impossible

By partner used to work with 2 Somalian girls who came over - that’s where I get the £9 figure, it may have changed a little but they aren’t getting £1200 a month or anything close to liveable

I agree. I just don't see what problem they are going to resolve.

If you want to legally employ someone, you need to be sure they are allowed to work here e.g. by them proving they are a UK citizen or having a visa etc. A digital ID will just be a further way of doing it, but you could just as easily insist everyone has a passport, which at least has other benefits for the individual.

If you're working illegally, no one cares and they're not going to check a digital ID.

They've already said you won't need it for NHS treatment and you apparently won't need to provide it for anything else or carry it, so it's either a pointless waste of money, or the door to something else they're not stating.

Add into that, it'll be a government IT system, so several years late and massively over budget, and will probably have out of date security meaning it'll be hacked by China/Russia etc within about a week of it going live.

Other than that, I'm in favour...

Someone on the radio yesterday made me laugh, they said - ID cards are a solution that’s looking for a problem to solve

I think that sums it up

So what is the point of them?
Attach a picture of me to my nhs number, when I check in at reception my picture comes up on the receptionists screen.
Same for ni.
Did I miss out a "the"?
It could happen the next year(after it comes into effect)
So it won't stop what they are claiming it will stop, so what is the point of them?

Thanks for reply. I have to say I would expect to see some boats going back to France if the reality of perks in UK compared to France does not happen.

The only point of them is to make Starmer look tough on immigration to try and beat Reform at their own game. But unless the people smugglers demand to see someone's digital ID before allowing them to paddle across the Channel, I'm not sure it's going to make any real difference.

More likely he'll be thrown out of his job by Labour before this is implemented

Maybe if Farage and the rest of them weren’t on TV talking about ‘hotels’ it might slow down - Farage is the best salesman the owners of these ex-hotels could ever hope for

I know 1 of the ‘hotels’ typically used to run at 30% occupancy. So having a contract with the government housing asylum seekers is like winning the lottery

Needless to say some of the people that own the hotel groups are Tory donors….

They seem to think it will help with illegal workers. For me it won't, the only way to tackle that would be to punish severely those employing them. Maybe that's where they think a benefit will arise

If you're on a visa you already need a rtw share code which has your photo on it.

For me, it's a gimmick designed to appeal to likely reform voters. It wont actually change anything.

The only thing it could then be used for it's stop and search, and that's something I think we should all be fighting against.

Good points but presumably those that are continuing to come over by boat from all sources including French temporary destination will get news of what is actually happening in UK rather than be seduced by the image.
