ID cards.

I'm assuming all of those that are really concerned about giving their information to the authorities won't be travelling to Europe after the 12th October when you'll have to give, not to your own government, but a foreign organisation, your fingerprints, photo for face recognition, where you're staying and proof of a return ticket. Just asking....

Just had to do similar when entering Morocco.

Not an issue, I’ve nothing to hide.

So it's fear of immigrants, illegally working immigrants. You want us all to give over our identity because you think this is a massive problem that will be solved by our govn having all our details.

I do not agree, I think the govn make you see a problem, that only they can fix, by having our identity papers.

I think the govn should fix the root cause, not track us all. But that costs money.
I’ve previously said that it won’t stop the boats, but it can be a useful tool to quickly identify not only illegal workers, but those employing them.

What’s your real beef in the government having a picture of you, your NI number and work eligibility in a single database as opposed to to the same info being held by them already?

They've got all of that information already. What's stopping them putting it in a single database?

Who exactly do you think you'd be "giving over your identity" to?

The same organisation that takes your taxes, pays your pension, issues your driving licence and passport, schools your kids, allows you to vote......?

Now, I'd have an issue if we all had to get a Tesco Clubcard but not for this.

#Chicago Blue had it spot on last week when he said the attitude in the US is how do we do things as opposed to here where it's let's think of reasons not to.

We had a foretaste of how authoritarian our government can be with the COVID fiasco.
Check out how the Chinese have complete control of the population using digital ID. I can't believe how people can be so stupid to want the same thing here

Almost every country in Europe has ID cards. I don't think the French, Germans, Spaniards or Dutch think of themselves as persecuted slaves because of it.

The government has reams of data about all of us. For most of us, that includes a photo. If they want to control us, they have the means to do it. The reality is, they don't. Starmer frankly does not give a fuck whether I stay in bed tomorrow, travel to Burnley or start a new business selling soap. This is almost too free a country. For example, any cowboy with a bike and a ladder can set up as a 'builder' tomorrow. As long as they tell HMRC, they are golden. It's a country made for con merchants, grifters and tax dodgers.

They may import most of the data from these sources and only ask for what's missing, including a recent photo.
They want a single source, not multiple databases, I thought that was obvious
It is - my point is they already have it, so should utilise it before they ask for it again

Then why do they need this is they have it already. Why spend the billions upon billions? To fix what?

And why do you want it? And why is it important to you that everyone has it?

That info then being matched directly to their passport information and held in a database pending next customs visit of that passport owner.

I answered that a few posts ago. Slippery slope and all that.

But we currently have massive problems with people working and claiming benefits, people from this country. Yet they only mention illegal immigrant workers. Its almost as if they are playing on some fears. And spending 10s of billions to fix a problem that costs this country nowhere near as much?

There are rules regarding stay in countries that are time limited and the tax treaties that are in place between individual countries.

Slippery slope to what exactly

As I said, they will probably only ask for what they don't have and that may include an up to date photo
They've got all of mine already though - they can come back to me for anything missing after they can tell me what that is i.e. after they amalgamate and utilise the data they already have
