ID cards.

It's not a physical card FFS!

Fix the NHS? This could help the NHS immeasurably. I was in the chemist the other day to get a prescription. The lady had to sort through 20-30 bits of PAPER under the letter *. I had ordered the prescription using the app but the area that is under pressure is still using paper. I'm carying a cardboard card in my wallet to say I'm on a blood thinner, imagine if all of that info was brought together.

I know technology isn't for everyone, but PCs, smartphones and the internet are hardly new inventions like they may have been considered 15-20 years ago.
But sure why it being physical or not matters?! It's going to cost billions.

That information is there. It's called National Insurance number. So why don't the chemist and hospitals use that?

Sounds more like disjointed thinking rather than a lack of more personal information. Not sure how ID cards would fix that if they can't be arsed using what they have already.

Thanks. I get that. Maybe for once, we need to learn frorm those that countries that are already 5 years ahead of us.
Perhaps like at European Country level they are from the 12th of October this year collecting their own photos and fingerprints then using the Customs Gateway to bond them to the actual passport shown rather then trying to get them from other country databases.
They now control everything.

NI doesn’t have a photo. Not sure why you’re referring to chemists and hospitals

Giving things a go is great, if someone can convince me there is a legitimate purpose for it, or that it will benefit me.

I cant see either with this idea.

Not sure what Mavis has to do with ID cards short of painting anyone thats not desperate to do sit down, shut up and do what they're told as backwards or difficult. But if Mavis has a genuine reason for not wanting something built down the road why shouldn't she say so?
See my previous post there are tons of legitimate reasons for ID cards

It should be optional, and if people think there is a benefit they can get one. If they dont, they can just carry on as they were before.

There is no benefit to me. My data in a single database? Couldn't give a fuck.
Well, that’s your prerogative. Are you working as I expect your employer will want you to have it as a matter for employment

Personally i dont have an issue with ID cards if they are being used to centralise information to make Government more streamlined and efficient. In many ways it would make things much easier for people.
If for instance it was restricted to basic information currently held by the Government such as.

Name
Date of Birth
NI number
Nationality
Gender (can of fucking worms here)
Home address
Drivers Licience
NHS number.
Passport number
Right to work.
Etc.....

Where I have an issue is if they try linking this directly to bank details (access). Benefits, control of how we choose to spend our money or any automatic deductions such as fines etc..

I think whatever merit there may have been has been pissed away under the guise of it stopping illegal working.
Why on earth would they control bank details. For starters the banks won't let them and also the banks profit from your data anyway so they won't want to hand that over. You're extrapolating too much this is just a data merge and photo upgrade that brings the UK into the 2020s

Its going to save billions and far outstripping the amount it costs to set up. Very short sightedness looking at initial costs

No it shouldn't, you can't plan and budget based on a sample and unknowns. Everyone needs the ID and only then the true benefits will appear

So you wouldn't mind getting yoir details mixed up when going for an operation or you wouldn't mind someone claiming your pension and stealing your identity. Don't be so stupid

I wonder if people would argue for a National ID Card under a Reform Government...?

And when digital ID cards are the norm, they will probably expect you to provide it
So rather than benefit me it will actually inconvenience me having to provide evidence of something I've already provided.

What a waste of my time and my companies time having to go through this charade just so Starmer can tell reform voters hes tough on immigration.
