There are some Manchester radio people on twitter. James H Reeve, I think, as well as Steve Penk. I used to like it when he would make prank calls and wind people up.

I remember Stuart Hall doing the commentary for City. It always made me think of "It's a Knockout".

I started listening to Radio commentaries when Bryon Butler and Maurice Eddleston were the lead commentators, then along came Peter Jones (I thin he was a scouse fan but it NEVER EVER showed and he was undoubtedly the best radio commentator I heared.
