If the rot continues what happens ?

On our current form we are nowhere near top 4 material.
We should be more than capable of making top 4 if we can turn this slump around, but therein lies the rub.
We are bad by our own standards but we aren't as bad as the form suggests. Our confidence looks shattered and it's encouraging every team in the PL to have a go at us knowing they stand a decent chance of beating us. That's change the dynamics of matchdays for City.

We are going to actually have to start stuffing other teams before the fear factor returns. For that reason I think we will be fighting for top 4 right until the end.
The situation is we don't actually know what will happen. Whilst we haven't had completely woeful performances as a whole, some of the results have been. There was some decent periods of possession against Villa but that was it. It was like the team knew it wasn't going to win.

hard to see how this rot stops all of a sudden. injury situation aint going to be suddenly better. I guess we keep getting injuries almost every game and in the training. we just lost Dias, Ederson, Nunes since the derby last Sunday. add Stones to it now. our physical state is very poor and a Christmas period with lot of games followed by an unusual January schedule with extra two CL games in it aint gonna help it.

we would need some magical winter transfer already in first week of January hitting the ground running rather than Txiki haggling over 5m fee last two days of January.

Through a myriad of circumstances we are in a position where we simply don't have the required personnel available to be competitive at this point in time. Not all the fault of the board or Pep granted but a fair few fuck ups in planning have contributed to it.

I just can't see any solution other than buying 3 or 4 players, people say play the kids, but the time to play the kids and get them integrated was all those home games when we were winning over the past few seasons and they sat on the bench while the miles piled up in the legs of our stalwarts. I kind of agree with Pep right now in that throwing O'Reilly, Wright and other younger players into this shitshow isn't fair on them and could do more harm than good. McAtee deserves a go though, he can't be any worse than Bernardo has been lately, he has plenty of experience in this League in a crap team from last season!

We can't play a settled back 4 because of injuries which causes all sorts of issues in communication and confidence. It affects the offside trap, marking at corners, who tracks runners, who stays back and goes forward. Its a mess, look at any team that ships a lot of goals and its likely they also keep changing the personnel in defence every week.

Rico is getting a lot of flak for his positional sense lately but its due to our midfield being so slow, lacking in energy and combativeness we need him in there inverting to give any sense of impetus. Personally I'd have Nunes doing this as at least he has the physical attributes to burst up the pitch and win a few headers. But let's be real here, we're talking about inverting Mateus Nunes and Rico Lewis into midfield to give us energy or playing unknown raw academy prospects, this is not a situation we should be in as 4 time Champions.

Kevin is sad to see at the moment. His body is failing him and it hurts to watch a player like him being so obviously restricted, but again, we had ample signs and warnings. I didn't understand Peps use of him at the start of the season before he pulled up against Inter. He ran him into the ground for no reason at all, played all but 2 minutes of our first 4 league games. He could have been deadly still if we had invested in a younger version to rotate with in the Summer but now he's fucking shagged. So much pressure on Phil to somehow save our season and he doesn't look up to it at the moment, obviously something is happening that is affecting the lad but the timing couldn't be worse.

We're in a right hole, short term we could stop the bleeding by dropping deeper and punting it to Haaland for a few weeks but Pep is rightfully welded to principles that brought him nearly 20 years of success so he's not going to change now. So in the medium term, we need fucking signings or in the long term we are fucked!

for some context...

before this season there was some stat about how many games we won or lost with or without rodri.

please can someone find that stat
and project it over the length of this season?
that alone, i'd imagine, without the other injuries, fucks us up.

there is no rot.
