if there was a general election tomorrow...

I'm not really a political animal, I tend to listen to what they say and make up my mind nearer the elections. Manifestos and all that stuff. I suppose we got a flavour of what we can expect during the party conferences a few weeks ago.

The Tory's and the Lib Dems did'nt reveal a great deal, to me anyway, but I listened to Gordon Browns speech, and, well, I just could'nt believe my ears. He was saying we will increae spending on this, we will improve that, etc, etc, and I thought the man must be living in fantasy land. They were wonderful plans and aims, but where was the money going to come to pay for it all?

This country is on it's knees financially. It is going to take a generation to get out of the current mess we are in.

I don't know if it is right to lay all the blame on the government or the bankers. We have also played our part. You know, people borrowing stupid amounts of money so they can buy a house, and then start boasting about how much it has risen in value.

Whoever and whatever is to blame, I really don't care that much, to be honest. I don't understand a hedge fund. The reality is we are in a mess. I'm not looking for a scapegoat, I will be looking to the party that will be honest about what we will be facing over the next 10 to 15 years.

I know it will mean higher taxes. That is the only solution. There is no other way. And whatever the political party's may say in their manifestos, I will be looking for the party that has the most realistic grasp of the current situation and the balls to come out and say it.

I'm not expecting too much from them, to be honest, but all the party's, be they left, right or centre, are going to have their hands tied behind their backs for years to come because of the current financial climate.

And to answer the OP, I won't be voting Labour, as they always have, and always will, mess things up. I gave them a chance in 97. Never again, and after listening to Gordon Brown at their party conference, I need a realist, not a dreamer.

If you admit that you don't understand economics or even care about the roots of the current economic climate, how on earth can you a) determine that "there is no other way" than higher taxes and/or b) determine which "party that has the most realistic grasp of the current situation" ?

Am I going insane or is something not quite right there?

As for me, I won't be voting but I thank those who will from the bottom of my heart for forcing your views on me and others. But then again alot of people who vote are just on a comical merry-go-round - views don't come into it. Either way, if it wasn't based on good intentions, I think I would have more respect for the mugger... atleast he does his dirty work himself. Have a nice night!

I'm curious with all the posters on here that are suggesting their vote would go to the BNP.

Would you still vote for them if you knew they had a realistic chance of getting to power??

If you actually read their party manifesto on all the various issues, they seem to have been written by a retarded monkey - they just don't make sense...and would send the UK back to the ice age economically ...which may in fact be their plan!

Well, you're certainly doing your bit to reinforce everyone's view of the BNP & its supporters when it comes to political debate.

Have we all forgot the Thatcher years 15% Mortgage rate and the Poll Tax?????
thatcher was an angel! before she came to power we weren't in the g8 etc etc. she put us back on the map as a power and got us respect in many ways. she broke up the unions...fine.. they were and are left of socialism. we grew as a nation in all ways under her...

for me conservative or bnp!

Thatcher an angel and got us respect?? were you asleep in the 80s fuckin woman made us loathed througout the world only Ronnie Reagan respected her because he thought she was his wife. Aproaching my 50th birthday that cow Thatcher still makes my blood boil now i know Blair turned out to be a Thatcher clone but Thatcher an Angel FFs do ME a favour.

they say BNP because of immigration

yet none of you can ever provide any evidence to suggest immigration is "out of control"

net immigration was less than 100k last year, an insignificant figure in the scheme of things, most of them students actually and the rest mostly qualified and educated

you'll spout that not all immigrants are counted - but will never provide anything to back up to this except the anecdotal evidence of your bigotted mind

the UK takes in a miniscule amount compared to Italy, France, Germany, Spain

yet you have to find someone to blame that your life turned out so pathetic, so pick on someone of a different skin colour, well blame yourselves, this country gave you an education, a home, a stable first world environment to grow up in, it owes you nothing else.

now waits for the pathetic cries of the UK isn't first world. grow up
