Your theory has some merit. Any remaining student wankers in Fallowfield would still be in bed if the north made a raid anytime before 1pm.
Meanwhile the 'grown-up students' who stay on in the city, move to Chorlton, raise children called Tofu and Peace and open shops selling 'ethnic' hats knitted out of the pubic hair of Patagonian goat-herders wouldn't be much use either. Unless, that is, you claimed their favourite delicatessen was 'not properly organic'. Then it would be game on...
That said, the north manchester brigades would probably only get as far as the city centere and go no further, taking up their usual default daily activity of standing outside Wetherspoon's in Piccadilly Gardens, smoking and shouting while already three-quarters pissed at 10am.
They'd never get through the traffic in the Curry Mile anyway.
And even if they did breach the defences of the erratically double parked taxis and garish Asian wedding limos of our Bangladeshi volunteer units, areas like the Moss, Hulme and Longsight already have long-standing units of highly trained, fully armed combat veterans used to a chain of command, guerilla warfare and sniper tactics, and competent with a wide range of handguns. And that's just the primary schools.
So south it is.
