If we finish 3rd

am i right in thinking the groups could look like this

Manchester United (1st)
Italy Milan (1st)
France (1st or 2nd)
Portugal Porto (1st)

I dont fancy this one:
England (2nd or 3rd)
Italy Internazionale (2nd)
Russia Zenit St. Petersburg (1st)
Netherlands Ajax (1st)

England (2nd or 3rd)
Italy Napoli (3rd)
Russia CSKA Moscow (2nd)
Turkey (1st)

Spain Barcelona (1st)
Germany Borussia Dortmund (1st)
Ukraine Shakhtar Donetsk (1st)
Greece Olympiacos (1st)

Spain Real Madrid (2nd)
Germany Bayer Leverkusen (2nd)
Romania Oţelul Galaţi (1st)
Switzerland (1st)

Spain Valencia (3rd)
France Lille (1st or 2nd)

Having written about the permutations of the group stage draw for a few years, trust me - there is absolutely no point predicting the draw.

You can, however, see what the pots look like now here:

When will our first champions league game be? and do we go straight into the group stages? and do we get seeded?
Can you wait until 6pm on Sunday for the answer? This is City after all.

But yes - we would go straight into the group stages. Don't think they've announced the dates yet but the first group games will be mid-September. All clubs are seeded into one of the four pots depending on their UEFA coefficient. I don't know the coefficients but I reckon we'll be third pot.

Edit: We're currently in 36th place (it's based on performance in previous tournaments so we don't have many points). Might even be 4th pot but it depends on who else is in there after all the qualifying rounds.

4th pot, would get some fantastic games if we end up in that. I would say more likely 3rd though as isnt that where spurs ended up

If our coefficient is only 47 then surely we would be in pot 4.

Not necessarily.

There would still be 10 teams to qualify.

If, say, all 10 of those teams had higher coefficients than City, they would in effect relegate City to pot 4.

At the moment, you only seem to need a coefficient of 30+ to get into Pot 3, so City would make that.

But if, say, Dinamo Kiev, Arsenal and Glasgow Rangers qualified for the group stages, City would drop to pot 4.

In my view, City will be in pot 4.

Should we get to the group stages be that by beating Bolton or Qualifying, then chances are we are going to end up in Pot 4 and whichever group we are put into will be labelled the years 'group of death' because a side of our quality woul be the 4th Seed in the group! I for one would love to see a Barcelona in our group, the 1st seed is going to be an exciting tie anyway, we may as well make it the best out there!
