If we finish 3rd

Utd:

Welsh team
Scottish Team
Some unknown team

City:
barcelona
Inter Milan
Bayern Munich

If we beat Bolton then we are 99% certain to be in pot 3.

So we would be looking at 1 from

bayern
Barca
Madrid
Inter
Porto

plus 1 from

AC Milan
Shaktar
Valencia
Benfica
Villarreal
Zenit
Ajax
Rangers

And some shit team expected to be the whipping boys subject to qualifying rounds going to uefa seeding plans. Although Dortmund and Napoli are in this pot as well.

If you had any knowledge of the draw procedure whatsoever, you'd know that it doesn't work like that.

In each group, there is, statistically/in terms of experience, one outstanding team, one good team, one average team and one team that is a relative newcomer.

It just so happens that United would be in the outstanding category and City would in the relative newcomer category.

You're making a lot of assumptions there.

First, if Arsenal qualify for the group stages, they would make Pot 1 and knock Porto into Pot 2, possible knocking another team into Pot 3 and another team into Pot 4.

Second, pots 2, 3 and 4 are very fluid, depending on who qualifies.

Third, why are you counting Rangers etc when they haven't qualified?

Fourth, to dismiss Pot 4 teams as 'whipping boys' is extremely naive.

Borrusia Dortmund are in it for a start and, last season Rubin Kazan drew with Barca away, having beaten Roma away the previous season.

Cluj got a draw with Chelsea two years ago.

-- Wed May 18, 2011 1:46 pm --

Sarcasm only really works when its funny though though. It doesn't work when it's bitter.

:)

To be fair, that would be a great group. A trip to Lisbon, Athens and some Romanian backwater town.

Being honest, reds don't really look at the group stage draw in terms of difficulty of opponent; we look at how enjoyable the away match locations are.

Of course... because nothing says "CL winners", like getting knocked out at the group stages but getting a couple of days on the piss at various beaches around Europe.
