If we had to get rid of one player

I think the best way to get an answer would be the one that sold for less, but putting a real value on a player would be tough.

But I would'nt want to lose any one of those players.

Some cracking comments about Silva on this thread, Silva easy to replace, Lightweight etc, I'm sure those comments would be changed now they can see how important he is to us.

Some of the comments I've just read about Silva on this thread ram home the point that a fair proportion of football fans know absolutely nothing about the game.

He's our most important player bar none. Out of all of those you listed he's the one that our whole game is based around. We are not the same team without him in it. Everything good we do comes through him. Our momentum, penetration and rhythm is all based around him.

Hart, Kompany, Ageuro and Ya Ya are our other key players, and I'd even lump Barry and Clichy in there at a push too. But Silva opens defences. There aren't many players in the world who can do that.

Couldn't agree more, Silva IS our midfield, he's the link between our defense and our strikers, without him our midfield tends to disappear

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but Yaya is our link between defense & our attackers...

Everything goes through him.

Agree with this..it's a little worrying that he changes the dynamic so much, wwithout him i think we can still win the Prem but with him on form we are worldclass

He can barge a hole through a midfield when played in the attacking central role in a 4-2-3-1. But these days he plays 75% of the time in a holding role where he's not anything like as influential. He's certainly not the "link" you describe. Barry is actually more effective than Yaya at linking attack and defence with his consistent, quick, forward passing to more attacking players. Ya ya brings something different but only really on the occasions he's used correctly - the ability to utilise space in "the hole" with aggressive running.

But "everything" certainly doesn't come through him.

No. Yaya and Silva provides to the midfield in very different ways.

Without Yaya, the midfield wouldn't be solid as a unit. Yaya is the glue of the midfield.

Yet, Silva is the penetrative power and the most hardworking midfielder in the team, bar Milner, who rarely starts. Without Silva, our team would be constantly frustrating themselves, trying to force their way through the midfield.

Neither is more important than the other. If Silva is the arrowhead, then Yaya is the shaft.
