If we sign no-one where will we finish?

4th or above if the club can solidify the defense. A top class RB and top class LB will definitely go a long way in helping us secure that 4th spot. Also a creative midfielder type player like a Hamsik would help us get the balls to the attackers and i think Ade will probably benefit with having an attackive midfielder to supply him rather then play the long balls to him which he never seems to win, in saying that i wouldn't mind Ireland stepping into that role because we all know he is capable. But with the current personel 5th 6th would be our maximum

6th or 7th. I doubt Liverpool will be as bad next season, and Everton are decent too. The teams not bad, but if we want top 4 it needs to be improved.

think we defo need at least 3 new players!! am confused as to whats going on at the mo to be honest?? when the season finished mancini came out and said we were gonna hit the market early and try and get it sorted asap but now has contradicted himself with his latest statement.anyone else shed any light on it??

What happened was reality. Mancini's call for players to come join the chase for the premier league title came across to me as a desperate plea rather than throwing down the gauntlet. When we lost 4th place we were still hopeful that we would be able to attract big names but that has been replaced by the reality that we are no more attractive to big name players as we were last year. We've been trying for the A-list players but not getting anywhere.

We'll likely settle for a 2-3 players from the B-list of superstars once the World Cup has been sorted which is why Mancini is now towing that line. I think that things like the following:

1. Poor sacking of Hughes
2. Handling of Robinho
3. Player dissent towards Mancini

have worked against our club over the past year and made us less attractive than last year. When players of Tevez's and Robinho's quality are openly questioning the manager's training methods and tactics, that's obviously going to catch the ear of a potential target or 2 who would think twice about coming here.

I still harbor deep concern that the Mancini move may end up costing us the window we have to make it into the Chump's League before Platini's rules kick in.

edited to say that I think we will challenging 4th but will likely finish 5th again.

I'd say 2nd-3rd

Last seasons top 4

Chelsea will go all out for Champs league. proberly finish 1st
Scum are on the slide no money to improve. lucky to finish 5th
Arsenal stand to lose there best player to Barca Wenger has cash but wont spend it lol. will be fighting us for 2nd-3rd
Spuds haven't got a squad big enough to fight for 2nd-4th in prem, Chmps league, F.A cup and League cup. finsh 7th.

no chance of improvement,6th or 7th would be my guess.
fact is we need a LB,RB,CB,Creative mid and striker at least

This. Teams around us will buy and will only get stronger so it's essential we address these areas especially the creative/box to box midfielder role

I agree, not only with teams around us strengthening, there is also the seemingly unhappy players (neds and ireland).

Its so nice to now be a club where we know we have the funds to identify qaulity we want and go for it and not have to sell to replace with a "has been".

If we signed nobody I think we'd finish 6th behind the top 3 plus Everton and Spurs!

Christ we're a negative bunch aren't we. Interesting question though.

Personally I'd expect Mancini to set the team up to get 50 points from the bottom half (thats dropping 10 points max), look at his Inter side they were a model of consistency. Then I have no idea how he would do against the top half; at times we looked clueless (Everton, Spurs), sometimes we looked able to kill a game well (Liverpool, United) but other times we looked immense (Villa, Brum, Chelsea).

I think it would all depend on whether he could win the dressing room over or not. If he could then 4th if not god knows how far we would slide.
