Iheanacho needs to be starting games

A player can pull a hamstring at any age doing anything from playing to getting out of a car. There are games when we need a partner for Aguero, whether it's Nacho or Bony. There are certainty games where Nacho needs to come on very early in the second half.

The lad isn't a 16 year old waif who needs wrapping in cotton wool. He's a strong, talented player who offers an underperforming team something they desperately lack in some games and we are under using him.
No we are not under using him, we are gradually fitting him into top class professional football.in a controlled ,professional manner.
No knee jerk decisions. He is not our saviour. He does not need to feel to much pressure on his young shoulders..at this stage.
My belief is that by the business end of the season he will be a consistent performer for us on the long run towards the title.
He is not underused. He is being nurtured.Relax.

I've argued many times on here for him to get more time. But that doesn't mean starting each game; it means getting sufficient minutes to acclimatise, learn and improve. Much as I like him, I'm not sure who I'd drop to let him start. But coming on with 30 - 45 minutes to go - yes please.

Definitely. We should be going 4-4-2 with Aguero/Iheanacho for the rest of the season. We're at our best with those two playing.

Dont think Iheanacho is ready to start every game. Certainly when we expect to be on offence, 442 is an excellent option.

Surely the same person (mp?) that is taking nachos youth into account by not rushing him into the team is astute enough to realise that yaya should also not be starting every game for other age related reasons?

No way he should be given priority over Silva behind the striker, and no way should be be going to places like West Ham with a 4-4-2. Throw in the fact that there's no way he should starting over Aguero, and it exposes the daft binary fan nonsense that he should be starting every week. He started last week and he's being integrated into the team very well.

Thank the Lord
A sensible post in this thread.
How quickly some have forgotten that when he has started league games he's looked a little out of his depth
Bringing him on when defenders are tiring and we are attacking sees the best of him. Thought his cameo on Saturday was very good indeed.

Some sense at last.

Sums it up perfectly.

Whilst I don't advocate him starting every week I would totally disagree that he has ever looked out of his depth. For me he has always looked confident, positive and threatening. I do think he should have had more game time so far and I do think there are games when we could play 2 up front but WHU was not one of them.

I have the feeling if and when Pep comes he could mold Kelechi into the type of player that Douglas Costa is at Bayern now

Norwich at home in the premiership game he definitely looked out of his depth. Giving him little cameos for the time being is defo the right way to go. Eventually he will merit a regular start but not right at this minute.

I thought the entire team looked out of their depth in the first half against Norwich. Yet predictably it was Iheanacho who was hooked at half time. He wasn't any worse than any other player in a blue jersey in the first half.

Having watched him against West Ham, he was excellent as he has been in most of his pertformances/cameos. He does look as though he feels he needs to pass to one of the senior players at every opportunity rather than have a go himself though, imo once he gets that confidence he'll be flying.

I was very disappointed with Pellegrini for not starting him at Everton in the cup. He had been involved in the comp from the off and he should have started. Can't see how it would have made us any worse that we were that night. Hopefully he gets a start Wednesday and Saturday although I can't see it with Pellegrini picking the side.
Perhaps on Wednesday, but if he starts Wednesday, he absolutely shouldn't on Saturday.. That will be poor management of his minutes.

There is no reason to overexpose him now. If we were down our Senior strikers, sure. But otherwise, groom progressively. While I believe he can handle it, there is no reason to force the issue.

I think he is more likely to play Saturday than Wednesday. I hope I am wrong because I think he would cause Everton problems and give them more to think about defensively which they are not very good at.
