Ilkay Gundogan - 2017/18 performances

Hung out to dry a bit with whatever the position was supposed to be, but he was shit regardless of what he was meant to be. Remember a couple of years ago when fernandinho excelled in a right wing role? That tells you all you need to know about the difference about the two.

Can't see him being around much longer and he'll probably go on to be pretty decent elsewhere.

20 starts, 5 defeats

Says it all, considering we have had about 5 defeats in 50 games... he is no Ozil or Toni Kros. Leagues behind players of similar moulds and sadly one level down from City. I wish him the best and injury-free but hes just not world-class. A German Milner.

Completely lost it. Was too slow to react and too weak. He cannot play that deeper role and positioned himself in poor areas. Whilst everything went Liverpool's way, De Bruyne would have been better in the deeper role and Bernardo should have come in for Sterling if Pep felt the game was too big for him at Anfield. Gundogan should not have started.

Pity he didn’t play like Milner last night.

He was undoubtedly poor last night, although he was hardly alone in that respect, but very harsh for the MEN to give him 1/10. That's something I'd expect from a national tabloid rather than our own regional paper.

Hes being scapegoated.

He was put in a stupid role which exposed us, but it's not his fault he didn't turn into a brilliant defensive winger who could bail out Walker, or suddenly become a rapid box to box who can cut out counterattacks.

Hes 27/28, he has a game, and you pick him to play that game. He didn't do that well but most of the things being levelled against him are products of him being selected and played in a weird position.

Not really sure what was expected of him last night. Easy scapegoat because Guardiola left him out to dry.

I am trying to also get my head around assessing him as he was played in an unfamiliar position.

I get Pep's idea, but why not have KDB play out wide instead?
