I reckon deep down he probably knows he needs a less physical league for the remainder of his career.

In the PL the risks are pretty high of getting another injury and so I think its fair enough at his age.

What a signing though...

good luck and thanks for your professionalism and effort. A great pro.

How things change… 15 years ago we’d have been picking a player up like Gundo @ 33 hoping to get a couple of seasons out of him… but now we’ve had his peak years, he’s been amazing and he’s going to Barca to extend his career in a less intense league. We all move on and we will sign someone else keep moving us forward. Thanks Gundo…. Wonderful memories, what a player and what a gent. Good luck.

Back in the 90s we had the likes of Klinsman joining the Premier league for the sunset of their career. How times have changed.

Really feels like we have burnt him out, well not burnt out but my god he (And the rest) worked extremely hard for their money. So much more hard work than any other top team players. He deserves the break.

Another transfer that has worked out perfectly, really. Nothing but respect for Ilkay. Seems like a gentleman. And what a way to bow out. I wish him well. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him back one day on the coaching side.

Maybe Pep had just started to see something we (I) hadn't, beginning to creep in towards the end. Not talking about the obvious good stuff: the match-winning goals; winners against United etc. Just getting his pocket picked on the half turn once or twice..? That's probably being picky. Well, it is being picky. But not the sort of thing to have escaped Pep. Then again, he wanted him to stay. So, what do we know?

In any case, best of luck Ilkay.

Never got the respect he deserved???

He was hero worshipped by the majority.

Serious question, where do you watch from? As from my perspective, and fans around me, they absolutely love Gundo, home and away.

I was referring to opposition fans.

I’m a match goer in Kits and know how much we appreciated him.

Opposition rarely spoke about him like they did with others players and I think until his high goal scoring season was not rated as high as he should.

However, I can assure you now he is going all of them will now say he is quality :-)

A bit anecdotal but not until maybe a season or two ago did adulation come his way.

You’d usually see comments like ‘Rodri & Gundo don’t work with x’ or Gundo is too slow or Gundo this or Gundo that. He was in the firing line for a while.

I’m only assuming that’s what @Fuzzy80 meant when he mentioned not fully getting the respect he deserved.

I also feel that it wasn’t until 2-3 seasons ago that people really got the whole ‘pausa’ effect that Gundo brought.
