Fortunately we have plenty of quality midfielders to go into the new season not having to worry about Gundo being made to play three games in a row. Unlike last season when he had to play due to injuries and players out of form. At times last season he was running on empty because of his age and work load forced upon him.

His minutes will be managed carefully next season and I doubt he'll be expected to play many full games. Starting a game until he starts to tire or coming off the bench to help shore up defence and nick a goal from midfield is still within his remit.

But let's not forget part of the reason he signed for two years was to go straight into a coaching role at the end of next season. Some posters wanted him gone this summer(he may well go to Galatatasarey yet) but he still has the quality and more importantly the experience to play another season before becoming a coach for us.
Iirc last season he played when he didn't need to and we had alternatives (grealish for one) just because pep loves him, or rather loves what he can do on a good day. Agree though that he's a great player to have on the bench etc.

Unfortunately, his final season will be robbing our young players of the future (Echeverri, Cherki, O'Reilly, Gonzalez etc) of the chance to progress. Squad places & the HG quotas are at a premium, so we can't have it both ways.

I'd prefer he leaves for a season or two to Galatasary, & return as a City coach when he's fully retired from playing football.
I think Pep needs to sing him a song

Basically we have to pay him to leave, so he can collect a fat paycheck from Galatasaray? Unless I am wrong and that's not how it works? Not a great deal, but at least it opens up a NHG space if Gundo and Manu leave.

I don't know what took this long to come to the conclusion everyone had come to 3 months ago.

If Ortega leaves as well. Gundo and Akanji brings us to the limit, one more has to leave to have space.

This is one I have consistently expected from before the window opened. There is respect there and the club and he will fond an agreement. It won't involve 'paying him off', I'm willing to bet.

It’s a good deal for everyone, albeit a bit cheeky considering he left for Barca on a free and we gave him an extra year option to come back, but a contract is a contract!

If Ortega goes.
Yeah, I am assuming he is gone. He would be a 3rd keeper, and we would have a 4th keeper in Marcus as well? Not happening. A loan to Gladbach, probably. Hopefully some obligation to buy as well.

I think we will end up doing the same with Ortega and Phillips as well.

Looks like Akanji is refusing a move by the reports. Looks like he is happy to ride it out in the hope he gets picked.

Not necessarily. He's got a contract which means we have to pay him but also means he has to stay and play for us. This will be cancelling it by mutual consent and could involve us paying him, him paying us or no money

Could he agree to a "mutual termination?" Let me out of my contract, free and clear. You owe me nothing, I owe you nothing and I go to Turkey, get my contract, bonuses, and playing time and everyone is happy

We are currently 2 over the limit since reis and echeverri have already gone

I doubt gala will be paying him what he gets off us now so we will have to make up the difference

Yeah, the poster was saying it would free up space for an additional NHG right back. But has since clarified he assumed Ortega leaving too, which is the same as I had pointed out.

Wouldn’t come as a surprise. It’s effectively us letting him go on a free and topping us his wage, lol.

Horrible contract by Txiki. Says it all about our transfer policy in the last years !

There are still other obvious problems though
