Importance of finishing third explained

How much more money will the club receive from finishing 3rd? as opposed to 4th?

I remember the media calling last years City/Spurs decider as 'the 40 million pound game', so somewhere around there I'd assume?

For the PL prize money, it's about £1m extra per place. As someone mentioned above the group stage money would be guaranteed plus game bonuses and win/draw bonuses - should be easily £25m even if we don't qualify from the group

This link gives you an idea of the scale of cash involved, winners, runners-up etc got £45m or so. I think it will obviously more this season and again more for next season.

Don't need to read it...if we finish 3rd we don't need to play a qualifying game.....simples!
You might get it, but thousands don't realise we might not be seeded and would therefore end up with a very tough fixture
seeing as we struggled to be a 2 seed in the group stages of the Europa League, people really should grasp that we might well struggle to be seeded in the qualifying round and I would be shocked if we are not a 3 seed maybe even a 4 in the group stages.

I'm fairly sure we'll be in pot 3 for the group draw if we make it, we could well end up in a "group of death" as our top seeded opposition will most likely be one of Inter/AC/Barca/Real Madrid/Bayern as we can't face English opponents.

Obviously. On paper, we will be one of the best teams in it, but our UEFA coefficient will suggest we are one of the worst. The "group of death" WILL be our group (if we reach the group stage), not 'could' be!

The significance of 3rd is not just about the CL...

As fans we've got more to be happy about than any other team other than the scum.

If you offered 3rd to Chelsea fans but with the FA Cup and us second, how many do you think would bite your hands off?

I know which option I'd choose.

although I'd love to finish 3rd the prospect of going away to one of the big clubs for my 40th birthday in late August will certainly soften the blow... Munich for my 40th, it could be worse!!

Re: The significance of 3rd is not just about the CL...

I wouldn't even say that scum fans are happy. For them, winning something is just another day, another opportunity to get loud and irritating, and just generally rub things in other people's faces. Contrast that with the pure joy that's going around City at the moment. I pray to God that we'll never, ever, forget where we come from, and just take things for granted.

And by the way, there are a fair few Baggies out there who are having a great end to the season. Top ten placing? More than happy!

You've got to expect a rock hard group...it's the CL! But just getting there guarantees us a load of dosh which we don't get if we finish 4th and lose the qualifier.

The importance is not only because we are guaranteed CL football.

It's easier to prepare for the upcoming season. The pre-season will then be better. And maybe this will convince the signings even more about our ambition.

Tbh...if we dont finish 3rd...i will be a bit sad and dissappointed tbh.

A few weeks ago i would have been overjoyed with 4th place. Now i want the 3rd spot so badly..i dont want to watch qualifiers.

Let's beat Stoke and Bolton! I thought i could watch the last 2 games without any nerves.

But there will be nerves...who feels like this?
