Importance of finishing third explained

The importance is not only because we are guaranteed CL football.

It's easier to prepare for the upcoming season. The pre-season will then be better. And maybe this will convince the signings even more about our ambition.

Tbh...if we dont finish 3rd...i will be a bit sad and dissappointed tbh.

A few weeks ago i would have been overjoyed with 4th place. Now i want the 3rd spot so badly..i dont want to watch qualifiers.

Let's beat Stoke and Bolton! I thought i could watch the last 2 games without any nerves.

But there will be nerves...who feels like this?

Its better than need to wins to stay in the PL.

I know what you mean but treat it as a bonus if we get it. We still have the FA Cup and can attract better players with 4th (even if Bayern then knock us out!)

You might get it, but thousands don't realise we might not be seeded and would therefore end up with a very tough fixture
seeing as we struggled to be a 2 seed in the group stages of the Europa League, people really should grasp that we might well struggle to be seeded in the qualifying round and I would be shocked if we are not a 3 seed maybe even a 4 in the group stages.

I'm fairly sure we'll be in pot 3 for the group draw if we make it, we could well end up in a "group of death" as our top seeded opposition will most likely be one of Inter/AC/Barca/Real Madrid/Bayern as we can't face English opponents.

We definitely won't be higher than pot 3:

a lot depends on Bayern Munich, but if they get through, pots could look like this:

Pot A: Man Utd,Chelsea,Arsenal,Barcelona,Bayern Munich,Real Madrid,Inter,Porto.

Pot B: AC Milan,Lyon,Shaktar Donetsk,Valencia,Benfica,Villareal,CSKA Moscow,Marseille.

Pot C: Zenit St Petersbug,Rangers,Ajax,Bayer Leverkusen,FC Copenhagen,Fenerbache,Man City,Twente Enschede

Pot D: Borussia Dortmund (!!!), Basle,Galati (Romanian champions),Napoli, + 4 other qualifiers.

Group of Death:
Barcelona
AC Milan
Man City
Borussia Dortmund

Yes, we would end up playing Spanish,Italian,German league winners!

Just the chance to be in that group was beyond my wilest dream 2 years ago.

Having to play in a qualifier in August would completely knacker pre season.

Spurs were knocked out of the domestic cups early on but still tailed off badly in the league. How much of that was due to having to peak in August?

For me it isn't just about CL qualification though that is the main concern.

In the past we've seen Everton and Spurs edge into the top four by the skin of their teeth. To finish third would be a symbolic achievement showing that we aren't just dipping our toes into it only to be swiftly dumped out again next season. We'd be making genuine inroads into the elite.

!

Not if Arse meet Bayern in the qualifiers :-) Just seen that that cant happen :-(

I would quite like a trip to the Stade De Luz in August, but would hapilly settle for either Benfica or Barca in September (any chance of meeting Sporting in the groups?)

6 in a camper van to Lyon would be quitean experience for a Euro away trip, and a decent holiday as well (as long as customs dont stop the van on the way back)

I wouldn't even say that scum fans are happy. For them, winning something is just another day, another opportunity to get loud and irritating, and just generally rub things in other people's faces. Contrast that with the pure joy that's going around City at the moment. I pray to God that we'll never, ever, forget where we come from, and just take things for granted.

Couldn't agree more.

As fans we've got more to be happy about than any other team other than the scum.

If you offered 3rd to Chelsea fans but with the FA Cup and us second, how many do you think would bite your hands off?

I know which option I'd choose.

Yeah, I mean you can't really call Spurs from last year "Top 4 also-rans", but if I say that I guess you kind of know what I mean. If we get 3rd we're truly up there with the best, and you couldn't even TRY to argue that we haven't had a better season than Chelsea or Arsenal. There's a lot of prestige involved, no doubt there.

CL is extremely important though. Micah Richards pointed out in an interview published today that we could get the likes of Bayern Munich in the qualification...
I just hope Mancini has communicated this enough to the players. The buildup for this game tonight hasn't exactly been huge from City's part, they've been great with stuff after the FA Cup on the official site but hardly any buildup to tonight's game. These are two VERY important games for us.
