Inbetweeners to return

I loved the Inbetweeners and will still watch it as it will be good to see the cast back together but it’s not gonna be any good in my view. Plus it’s core audience is also 20 years older….

I guess it depends how they do it, if they try and recreate it like they are teenagers again it will be a disaster if they go down the route of leaning into them being older mid 40s and not understanding the world anymore it could be quite funny.

Suppose they could make it so they all work together?

Bit like The Office where they had the warehouse downstairs and the office upstairs? That would be my suggestion as that’s another situation where they have to be together even though they would now likely be different people.

So Jay and Neil are like at the bottom and Will and Simon are higher up kinda thing?

For me, the inbetweeners is an all time classic, don't think there has been anything as good since it came out, i like the idea of more and will of course watch it but I don't think its a good idea. The humour was of its time, a lot of it you wouldnt get away with now and more importantly, it was of its age. A lot of it only worked because they were 16-18 yr olds. They'll be nearly 40 now. Will be very hard to get it right.

Given that it is seemingly happening though, what would you have the boys doing?

For me, Will would be working as a supply teacher in his old school under headmaster Gilbert who gave him a job as a favour to wills mum who he's now married to. he's being bullied by both the kids and the teachers. He's also hopelessly running for MP as an independent hoping that will spearhead his aspiring political career.

Simon is married to Carly who eventually settled for him, both were reluctant to marry but she fell pregnant and they both felt obligated. he's a stay at home dad to about 5/6 kids, he's miserable but can't get out so pretends his 17 yr old dream life come true, is great.

Jay is ridiculously successful, done loads of amazing and crazy things but he's bound by confidentially clauses so he can't tell anybody. He occasionally let's slip about things hes done but absolutely nobody believes a word he says, and whilst he could prove it, he isn't allowed to

Neil has had several dopey/clumsy moments go viral over the years which has resulted in him inadvertently becoming an online influencer and minor celebrity, he doesnt understand any of it

I think these are a great premise....i dont think youre too far off what they'll do
 
As long as its the original cast im hopeful.
Other similar situations didnt work because too many original characters were missing.

And i dont really get it when people say “wouldnt het away with the same jokes”.

Why not? Sure it was all puerile, smutty and immature butni dont recall anything too offensive?

The jokes were mainly funny because of their age. Would it be funny watching 40 year olds acting with a 15 year olds humour?

You can get away with 20 odd year olds acting like kids but they are too old now.

Im 51 and out of my close friendship group i met them all between 11 and 18.
 
All over this if true.

I think a film as opposed to a series would work better. I don't think a bunch of episodes centred on them still hanging out and meeting regularly would work with how old they are now.

But a film, someone's stag do being cliche but ideal, would work perfectly. That way nothing really has to change too much. Simon being engaged to marry someone he doesn't really love and Jay trying to sabotage it whilst Will talks up how great love is whilst being in a loveless marriage of his own and Neil is Neil where he's got a kid with a Mum he's no longer with and who is somehow an absolute genius.

Plenty of gay stuff that would probably get classed as homophobic now, "bumder" wouldn't happen nor would the "Mr chippy" line. a couple of instances of sexual interactions with underage girls, such as the caravan club girls, the girl chasing Simon at the underage disco. The paedo kennedy part would be questionable. Some of it you might still technically be able to do, but it wouldnt be recieved the same way.

A lad I worked with was on holiday in Ibiza or somewhere when they were filming the Inbetweeners film.
They ask loads of people if they fancied been extras .
Got paid 200 a day to get pissed on a boat
Funny as fuck program.
 
They have had their time but it is a needless reboot and with comedy being subjective they aren't going to find many extra fans.

I think the hotel scenes were filmed in Majorca - Palma Nova to be exact ( I had stayed at that hotel the Ponent Mar a few times beforehand ) and other external scenes on Crete - Malia I think.
