Injuries.

I see the medical staff getting lots of grief but what if Pellers is wanting to train in a certain way and then play a certain way which just means we get more injuries. Perhaps the medical staff are just doing the best they can in a shit situation.

i don't recall a massive amount of injuries last season - united and arsenal had it much, much worse. the situation right now is bad, but to criticise the manager is reactionary. also why are people criticising the medical staff? they treat injuries, they don't prevent them.

Off the top of my head, Kompany was in and out the side, all our strikers were injured at one point, Nasri was out for a significant length of time. And the medical/fitness staff are supposed to work with the coaching team to try to ensure injuries are prevented as far as possible by ensuring they're not over-training, are warming up and down properly and that they get adequate recovery time from any injuries.

A good doctor puts his duty to the players ahead of that to the manager and will often piss the manager off by standing up to them when they train in the wrong way or try to rush players back. That's what happened between Mancini & Dr Batty and probably what happened between Mourinho & Dr Carneiro.

And any decent physio will tell you that, with the resources we have, soft tissue injuries are generally avoidable. Certainly in warm-ups. It's getting beyond a joke and needs sorting out.

If you Google Dr Max Sala, the current doctor, there's nothing about him (apart from the fact that he's our team doctor). Nothing about his background or experience. That tells me something to be honest.
It is a worry. The players should be told everything to the nth degree to the point where they're sick of being told about how to live their everyday life, not just how to train.

It is important (and i'd like to know what, if anything, they are told) that they are told how lie in bed, how to sit when you drive, how to lie in the bath, how to sit when watching tele, how to walk, what footwear to wear (all this away from training), do they sit down too much (legs bent at 90degress too much has hamstrings in a flexed position too often), when you're sat on the toilet or a chair eating do you have flat feet or just toes on the floor (being on your toes when sat down puts the calf muscles in a state of flexion too often)...individuals should have specific warm-up and cool-down procedures if they suffer from certain injuries...do they?...what are our masseurs like?, what is our cryo and hydrotherapy like?...

injuries happen, that's a fact of football, stop whining and get on with it.

we've spent plenty of money on our squad to cover injuries, we do have a brilliant squad, when things have eased a bit we will be absolutely fine.
take a look at the squad, take a look at the "first team"

zabba-sagna
kola-clichey
komany-demi
mangala-otamendi
Sergio - bony - wonder boy
kdb ,sterling ,
silva ,nasri
navas
toure,fern,ferna,delph,
cant be arsed going through the rest :) but you get my drift,a lot of our "second team" would be first choice in most of the prem teams. we are struggling a little but when things start to bite on other squads we will show our strength in depth.

Ultimately though, the manager got their own way in those situations as both Batty and Carneiro weren't at the club for long after they started disagreeing with the manager.

I don't like how so many of these are musuclar problems. That's symptomatic of poor training or medical care, but it could still be just bad luck. We'll see how the season unfolds.

vast majority of teams have an injury list like that over the course of season. chelsea are an exception as a result of blood spinning. doctors/physios won't stand up to a manager, even if they want to. ultimately, the training methods of a club are decided by the manager and coaching staff. this is why arsenal, despite making changes to the medical staff, continue to suffer from terrible injury problems - wenger is to blame. simply can't put pellegrini in the same bracket. our injuries are nothing in comparison to arsenal.

This is really interesting, from the guy who did Physio Room.

@BenDinnery: No team travelled further during the close season than #MCFC Almost 40k miles. City have lost the most days to injury so far this term [...]

@BenDinnery: [...] while in stark contrast #WAT #WHUFC and #NCFC who travelled the least <500 miles are amongst the best performers so far this season

@BenDinnery: In the summer of 2014 #NUFC covered the most miles during pre-season (24.6k) - of any PL side - and finished with the worst injury record

That's not rocket science,i think most of us could predict that happening,it was beyond stupid

Guess you don't remember us playing with Milner up front for a fair few games?

Often injuries are spread out amongst positions & time, last season they came in clumps of positions (Striker) & to key players fairly often - perhaps not as numerous as Arsenal etc. but still having a big detrimental affect on the season.

This season there's just been an overwhelmingly large amount, we've almost been lucky that the injuries have been spread out across the positions so that we can actually field a team of 11 each week, if they'd clumped up like last season we'd be having even more of a nightmare with it.

So is our physio dept taking unfair stick
I think the injury situation needs an urgent review at all levels, starting with the pre-season tour down to the day to day handling of the injuries

I am sure we are doing exactly that but unfortunately i think the powers that be are happy with the touring side of it

We really didn't need the Stuttgart game on top of the others,a game at home where they could be more rested would have been better imo

You have to admire the way we've organised our injuries to form a complete team.

We are missing a goalkeeper, 2 central defenders, a left back and a right back, a defensive mid, a box to box mid, 2 attacking mids and 2 strikers. There's a top six premiership team right there.
