It's official, we've had the most injuries of any team this year.

Story

Manchester City have suffered the most injuries among Premier League teams this season.

Manuel Pellegrini has seen his squad setback by a remarkable 51 injuries so far - yet City remain just three points off the top of the table.

In contrast, Premier League leaders Leicester City have benefitted from one of the best injury records in the division, according to physioroom.com. The Foxes squad have suffered just 15 injuries between them this term, a huge boost for boss Claudio Ranieri as he leads the team's surprise title challenge.

While City have had to do without key men Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany and David Silva at times this season, Leicester have had Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez available for every Premier League game.

And not just the most, the most by a long way. We've had 10 more than the next team.
 
Well it doesn't help when our opponents can rake their studs down the back of our star player's leg, and not get so much as a talking to.
 
It shows you how well we have done to remain fighting on four fronts. These haven't been incidental injuries, either, they have been key players mainly.
 
The only good thing is we can still rock up with a team of fully experienced players. When we can't I'll be worried.

I actually felt relieved when I realised we have a week free without a midweek game next week. I think.

Its fair to say that we have and should have a squad that can cover for injuries more than most, but all the same the fact that we are still fighting on all fronts having had the freakish
amount of injuries really is overlooked. Fantastic effort really and makes you think some of the criticism the team and manager have taken this season is a tad wide of the mark.

Totally agree, mate. You can have as big a squad as you want but you cannot replace Kompany, Silva and Aguero. I'm not sure if we've even had all three together on the pitch all season. In fact we've rarely had two, and they haven't been fully fit.

Most of the criticism has been well wide of the mark. I don't include the biggest one of all, though: sticking with Ya Ya. I still stand by the point that the whole season depends on the manager biting the bullet on that one. But I digress.

Amazing really to think we're in the position we're in with a 35 year old in central defence most weeks, a right back covering that position in the cup along with a 19 year old to do the job of Aguero, it's a real credit to the squad we're still fighting on all 4 fronts.

Dead right, fella. We've played pretty much all season with only two fit full backs, and that's arguably the job that covers the most miles. And as I just posted (but it got lost at the end of the page), how often have we had more than one of Kompany, Silva and Aguero fully fit?
 
Just saw a feature on North West BBC news highlighting new developments in physio, bio mechanics and so on, with city funding it along with MCC and MCR Uni.
This looks very advanced yet we have more injuries than clubs with a quarter of our facilities.

My only thinking is many players aren't really injured and City will just say Xxxxxxx is injured rather than being rested/rotated, stopping the gutter press from writing negative shit.

That might apply to the odd single game, but it really isn't going to apply to the 2-3 month absences our senior players have been out for.

As to why? I don't know. The whole league seems to be suffering, but us more than most. We have a lot of players who play a lot of games for club and country, and they seem to be the ones with the biggest problems. That's the closest I can get to an explanation.
 
I honestly cant remember the last game we played where the manager had the pick of the squad?While the occasional Pellegrini special can be attributed........ Its little wonder our form has been inconsistent with such abscences and constant rotation. Competitions are won with a combination of talent and luck and we certainly aren't getting our quota of the latter
