For me it is a red. I know in most cases the player gets up and plays on. In that case a yellow is fine. But I think VAR should have advised ref to give a red. It was clear to see the deep purple swelling on his face indicative of a severe blow to the head. It's arguably worse than a 2 footed challenge on the legs. Head injury is far more dangerous, and can seriously threaten a player's health.

not everyones example of a red card offense but to me it was. seriously dangerous challenge that should have really been looked at retrospectively.
I thought it was a red too.

To deliberately block a player is bad enough, but to do it to one going at full tilt in the way Rüdiger lifted his shoulder into Kevin’s face was absolutely disgusting.

One of those challenges. That gets remembered the following Season.

Wont be forgotten.

Like Martin Buchan Challenge on Colin Bell.
Reminds me of a Rodney Marsh quote. "You send one of our to the hospital and one of yours is off to the morgue". Bit different today.

I don’t know based on the rule book if it was a red or not, I’m not an expert and I’m not someone who obsesses over these types of things. However attempting to deceive the referee by feigning a head injury is about as unsporting as it can possibly get

What makes it worse is that Rudiger falls down clutching his head when Kev never even touched his face. He knows exactly what he was doing and he feined injury to get away with it
