Last year Van Dijk didn't get injured. That was where Liverpool were lucky. However, Gomez was on a great run then broke his leg against Burnley. Lovren proceeded to get injured and then Matip which left Liverpool shoehorning Fabinho in as a Centre Back for a few weeks.
Laporte is class and was a leader at the back. Once injured coupled with Kompany leaving things were going to be a bit shaky there. Norwich really exposed City and highlighted Laporte's absence but still had to score 3 to win. Against Wolves I'm not sure what happened. Granted, the defence was all over the place but it doesn't explain why there were no goals the other end. KDB was missing and is also world class but he was missing for most of last season and that had f-all impact.
What happened was having DSilva, Gundogan and mahrez in the same team

wolves was a puzzle and the whole team looked like they have worked there arse off in training and then forget that there was a game at the weekend, maybe burnout and to many cover players filling in and we just lost the plot, it can happen when you look at what we have done in the last 2 seasons and last season liverpool push us all the way, your body is the greatest indicator and rules your mind and says enough is enough and i need a rest

but i can never knock this city setup and pep or the board and if we have to pick one trophy this season and put all your eggs into the basket then champions league, so maybe we will see more of this in the premier league this season when pep will use the rotation in the premier league and go full guns in europe

but this winter transfer window we must bring in more players even if its short term till the summer and maybe loans deals for 1 or 2 defenders and even a striker with some height to give us some more power upfront

Wolves was not a puzzle: we have lost three games, in my recent memory, where the opposition has doubled up our wingers and man-marked our CDM. It is something that we struggle with if we are not 'on it' and especially without KDB who can nullify this kind of defence with killer quick passing. Once we become pedestrian, as we were against Wolves, we really find this strategy tricky to deal with.

I’ll be surprised if we see him again this season.
As soon as I told my daughter his injuries, she said February training and playing March, seen or heard nothing to say she wasn’t right then, so expect him to be back start of March.

I saw a video of him yesterday doing leg extensions. Looked promising. I went back this morning to take a screenshot and upload it to here but I can't find it now. I've no idea where leg extensions would put him on his rehab schedule but at least he is on his way back.
