The other issue is that some building inspectors know nothing compared to a builder, they are simply "tick boxers" rather than practical ....if I recall, you're a ff, so like officers that turn up at a job and it goes tits up, because you can't put a fire out with a pen, but they try telling everyone what they should be doing! ;)No vapour barrier required mate, I used PIR insulation so didn’t need vapour barrier according to BC, although the ceiling and in front of garage door I’ve also used foil backed insulation board, in fact if anything I’ve gone above and beyond on the insulation front.
True mate I had a battle with mine already, I did do a lot of research before going into this and chatted to a builder who’d done similar, there is a hard on for vapour barriers at the moment, insulation regs are getting stupid as well, like I said before that’s why they are having so many problems in new builds, the cavity wall insulation people had years ago is creating mold etc now due to poor ventilation in houses which they didn’t tell people they needed. Ive not tried to cut corners in fact my mate came round and said I’d done more than any builder would when it came to the insulation And plugging gaps. The other issue is that some building inspectors know nothing compared to a builder, they are simply "tick boxers" rather than practical ....if I recall, you're a ff, so like officers that turn up at a job and it goes tits up, because you can't put a fire out with a pen, but they try telling everyone what they should be doing! ;)
I've been building houses for 30 years mate. I won't claim to know anything about the building regs over there and we build houses very differently over here. Having said that, the vapour barrier is there to stop the warm air inside the house and the cold air on the other side of the drywall coming into contact with each other. Insulation alone will not cut it.No vapour barrier required mate, I used PIR insulation so didn’t need vapour barrier according to BC, although the ceiling and in front of garage door I’ve also used foil backed insulation board, in fact if anything I’ve gone above and beyond on the insulation front.
