Inter Milan want to poach Vieira

as much as I thought he was a great player do we have any objective assessment of how ell he is doing in his apprentice manager role ? lots of stories but nothing tangible yet to judge whether he's going to be a saint or sinner

It'd be pretty short sighted of him to go in my opinion. Inter have slipped down the pecking order in Seria A and are skint. The chances of them realistically challenging for trophies is slim. He should learn his trade with the U21's and really immerse himself in our club. If he does well he'd be in a great position when Pellagrini's cycle comes to an end.

I think Paddy is being lined up for the big job here. He'll know what system we have in place and I think he'll be happy to bide his time with it. 2/3 years at youth level, learning that side of things as well as our system and then he can be instated without any real disruption.

I very much doubt that.
Why would our owner and board want to take such a huge risk? What Pep did at Barcelona cannot be used as an example really, that was a one-off, a brilliant manager with a brilliant squad.
In 2/3 years we will be even further cemented as one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the manager to take over from Manuel will be a trusted one, a safe bet... - Pep Guardiola.

I'm still not sure why so many seem to rate Pat's appointment as the EDS manager. He has absolutely zero managerial/coaching experience you know. What he has is a reputation, a brilliant status in the football world, but if that would help the EDS win games I doubt.

I'll give him this season before I make a call on him, but with the back-up he's got and the talent at his disposal he should be winning most of the games and win titles.

And as for Inter Milan trying to snatch him up, I have no problem with that. If he wanted to leave I'm sure we could easily find a new, likely better, manager for the EDS.

If we are using the same system throughout the club at every level, then it is set up to promote from within.

Only time will tell, but it seems like a sensible option down the line - depending on how well he does at that level, obviously.

Could be good for us to let him cut his managerial teeth at another big club and see how he does, then in 3/4 years we could make a decision about bringing him back if he's shown the ability.

Inter only just took Napoli's manager Walter Mazzarri, don't think this will be happening just yet...

The whole point of the EDS is in the name. If it was solely to win games then we would see a set-up like Stuart Pierce over saw.
Player development is very difficult to judge over the short term, much too short to judge PV.

Buzzer, doesn't Elite development go hand in hand with results to show the progress? If it doesn't lead to improvement and thus wins, it's hardly elite development is it?
As I've seen on the OS, coaches (or was it Vieira himself) who said the kids needs to get used to winning as well.

We have bought a lot of young talents from all over the world, paid vast amounts of money for them, and I expect expectations of those kids mirror that investments. When our EDS are beaten by small'ish PL club's academy teams, with probably 1/100 of our academy budget I'm getting worried.

And just as with the senior side, the man responsible for results is the manager.

I completely agree, when pellegrini's contract expires Viera will come in as his replacement,
