I now agree re Dutch although I think I was mislead as to my info source. Re mansards I think it is a translation thing that doesn't travel across the ocean. A quick search suggests that mansard is a British term for gambrel but further looking indicates that it's all in the hips, ie gambrels are hipped. Certainly in Britain we have mansards atop terraced houes which are the same profile as the gambrel.Mansard and gambrel almost the same, Dutch totally different

Gotcha, sorry for my confusion.I wasjust saying that the pic could have been an A frame because the steep pitch. Not comparing it to another style of roof.

I'm probably wrong but isn't it a pot that you stick on open fire? Also to keep in step with the thread could you post a pic. I can't seem to do from my tab and my lovely wife has dibs on the desktop as she's WFM.Now were talking. I'm very familiar with the dutch oven as is my wife.
