Looking at that line up makes me wonder if Portugal might consider using the bigger Lisbon stadium along with Porto. All three visiting nations are quite capable of taking a very large following to a tournament.

Having watched how seriously all the nations seem to have taken this competition I think it will be here to stay and will turn out to have as much prestige as the Euros. After all what is not to like a short format with the best 12 sides playing against good opposition.

From an England point of view it gives us another semi final and maybe a chance to win something. Come what may next summer it will be very valuable experience for our players and is already following the world cup starting to instil an expectation amongst them that reaching the last four of tournaments is the norm rather than a once in a generation thing.

As for those calling it a tin pot trophy have seen some pretty gutted Croats, Germans, Italians, Spanish, Belgians and more on account of being knocked out of it.

Does this get rid of the French ?

If so: RESULT.
Yes it does but if you check the BBC web site this morning they seem confused:-
  • England, Portugal and Switzerland have qualified for next year's finals, which will be held in Portugal, with France joining them on Monday night.

Portugal's 0-0 draw in Italy on Saturday took them through, with Poland relegated to the second tier.

Germany were relegated to League B after picking up only two points from four games - their fate confirmed by the Netherlands' 2-0 win over world champions France on Friday.

The Netherlands' draw with Germany on Monday saw them top the group ahead of France.

They used to have a reputation for reliability.

Now they are just a liability.
