Internationals 5th-11th October

Ah got you, I was just assuming that 5th spot is automatic given whoever ends up there faces New Zealand.

Its a reasonable assumption to make but funny things happen in football.

Here in oz we are struggling to best Syria over two legs.

I hope it's Argentina make the play-offs.

Would be great to Messi and Sergio here in NZ.

If I was a City player, I would announce my international retirement. That was so Feckin shite! Turned over at half time for Ambulance on BBC 1, more entertaining and more exciting. This is the worse England team ever managed by the worst England manager in living memory. We will be lucky to get out of the group stages. To any England fan intending on going to Russia, don't bother, save your money!!

When Pep’s arrival was announced, not a few neutrals (and even a few hostiles) said that it would be good, not just for City, but for the game in England. I wonder, if we blow everything away in the next three to four years, and if Pep extends and really spends a decent (say, six-year) period here, whether there will be some effect on the England national team.
I didn’t watch the game last night, I’ll admit it. That’s how bothered I was. I remember watching England against West Germany (against Team Müller!) in Mexico and being absolutely gutted for weeks about that match. Same for England against Germany in Italy in 1990. Devastated... In fact, I first got into football because of the summer of ‘66.
Where did that passion go, I wonder.

It's the midfield for me, the 2 that are suppose to dictate play, England have Dier and Henderson!

Spain have Thiago, Busquets, Iniesta, Silva.
Germany have Kroos, Ozil, Khedira doesn't even make the 11.
Belgium have De Bruyne, Dembele, Nainggolan doesn't even make the squad.
Brazil have Casemiro, Fernandinho, Paulinho, Renato Augusto.
France have Kante, Bakayoko, Pogba, Matuidi, Rabiot.
Even Croatia have better options, Modric, Rakitic, Kovacic.

Even countries that are struggling have far better options; Chile, Argentina.

That's where we are truly behind and that's why we are crap. Some will say we've Wilshere, Barkley, Alli, Chalobah, Lallana to come back and offer options but we're still way behind the other countries.

I'm not his biggest fan, and I know he can be a twat, but I would have Shelvey in the England team.

Southgate must go, we're about half the team we were under Hodgson and that's saying something. Play like this in Russia and we'll go out at the group stage with two points on the board. Arguably the most clueless England manager I've ever seen.

At least it will put us out of our misery early.

When are we going to get past this 'blame the manager' approach all the time? Hodgson might be no great shakes but if I'd told the players to spread out a bit against Iceland it should have been enough. Eriksen had a great club record, and did little with England. Capello was deemed one of the best in the world. Shambles.

All very well to say 'Southgate must go' but then what? You think England will magically improve with someone else? Not going to happen. Every time it's been let's sack the manager, and every time England have shown no sign of getting any better. How many do we need to go through here?
