Interview with Bill Leivers - the longest surviving FA Cup winner

Joe Hayes ,Ken Barnes ,Leivers -great players I grew up watching.
Remember Jimmy Meadows who‘s career was ended in the 1955 FA Cup Final very early in the match? City had to play on with 10 men and lost 3-1.

Meadows’ career was ended at that point.

There was also some guy called Dave Ewing who played a bit for City back then.

I went to west wythenshawe college and City used to train next to wythenshawe park . I was watching them and Dave Ewing came over and got m some autographs. Great fella.

Always remember my dad pointing out some bloke near Hill Stores Oldham, he said that’s Jack Dyson played for City and cricket for Lancashire, this must have been 25-30 years ago, turns out my old fella new him quite well, a bit of a character. Scored in the 1956 FA Cup Final.

I never saw Jack Dyson play fur City other than televised cup finals. I did see him play for Lancashire.

That was after he was originally thrown out by the Committee for ‘indiscipline’ and played Minor Counties with Staffordshire for two seasons. The Committee was overthrown and Jack came back for two more seasons.

I think his return came just before the appointment of, the Australian, Ken Grieves as captain. Grieves also played football for Bury, Bolton and Stockport.

nice bloke and good read

how lucky they where in the 1950s not to have the match day build up of utter rubbish before KO that we now have. Not to mention the dragged out trophy presentation

Bloody ell….Fran could’ve played the great uncle card, maybe she is a blue after all
