Intimidating grounds

Edgeley Park when we played there in the old 2nd division.

Our players certainly found it intimidating!

In no particular order, but around these teams grounds you had to have your wits about you:-

Liverpool, Everton, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Birmingham, Nottingham Forest, Leicester, Wolves, Barnsley, Luton, Cardiff, Stockport County, Rags, Millwall, Tottenham & Chelsea.

I suppose that's quite a lot back in the day!

Not so much inside,but outside and trying to get back to coaches,especially National coaches,the Baseball Ground was a fucking experience.

Yep. For some reason we always drove there and then we had to leave the police escort and go and find the car.
Used to dread hearing “got the time mate?” :-)
Never minded any other ground, especially on the football special trains, safety in numbers. Away games in the 80s were fucking brilliant, never laughed so hard in my life, good times with good mates.
Probably not on most peoples list but we got chased all the way to the station once at Selhurst Park, I seem to recall it was the last game of the season and all the Palace fans charged the away end after they had their pitch invasion.
Also recall a couple of City fans ran onto the pitch before the end with a big banner saying “Machin out Moulden in”, I think they had Arab head scarves on, very prophetic.

We would take 6 or 7,ooo to villa every year but Birmingham 1,500.

wolves was a nightmare,i remember like a narrow passage way behind the south bank that we had to negotiage after the game to get to the coach,you just zipped up and put your head down and if you were lucky you made it

remember there was a bridge across the road,i looked up and seen this brick coming down it was that close it grazed my ear,if it had hit me full on i wouldnt be here today

Nottm Forest was quite tasty back in the day, as was Roker Park and Ayesome Park. Anyone who was on the ‘special’ back from Goodison after a League Cup game in the ‘80s, will probably agree with me that that night was literally like a war zone!
