Intimidating grounds

Went to a couple of 'Old Firm' games back in the 80's. It was like nothing iv'e ever experienced in England, even in the bad old days. I went up to Celtic Park once, the game was postponed due to snow. However, Ibrox had undersoil heating, which enabled the Reserve game between Rangers and Celtic to take place. There were thousands there, with no segregation. I saw 7 year old kids kicking seven bells out of other. The only time at a game i've felt in fear of my life!
It can get a bit hairy. :)

the estadio monumental, ( river plate) as you walk to the ground and see the police armed with shotguns it makes you think what the fuck am I doing here
Coming out of the away end at Poznan had to pass rows of armed cops, some looked like they wouldnt need much provocation to get stuck in. Have seen footage of some crowd disturbances in South America, not for the faint hearted.

Where have you guys been to away that has felt hostile and worrying? I didn’t grow up in the 70/80s so missed the real bad times. I always thought there was a funny vibe about white hart Lane, and for some reason bramall lane can feel hostile. Abroad, an Ajax Feyenoord game is particularity unfriendly

been a Feyenoord/Ajax game.

Even with fans banned was still hostile.

Grounds in the UK?

First season we went to Stoke's ground when they came back up was a little.

Birmingham in the league (Given saved a pen) everyone on our minibus was either arrested or some had match tickets, left me and another lad walking around the local area for 2 hours, stuck out like a sore thumb managed to find a mcdonalds though.

United in league cup semi under Mancini was moody, still pissed off i was walked into some horse shit by the police.

Celtic away after an OF game was a little moody, 5 of us slipped off after the game and walked in the direction where all Celtic fans were, was expecting to be attacked. Just got the usual hun bastards or the odd object thrown at us.

Having gone to many games against Rangers, 80 Cup Final Riot, insude the ground snd even worse outside, big battle outside Ibrox in 80's, Many City Centre and pub pitched battles. When we used to get over 20,000 tickets for away games, especially at us, we would walk back into the City centre and it would all kick off. Those experiences and the level of actual fighting, not the pussy stuff of chasing, you were never going to get much worse anywhere. If you are in numbers and those numbers are game to go, you get an adrenalin rush, helped by a pre match top up of your choice, it was actually quite enjoyable. Been to Arsenal, pussies, Wrexham in a pre season, tasty and stood their ground. All in all had great times, but after us against Rangers, everything seems second division. Juve fans at their ground were cunts, throwing stuff, but when we charged them after the game they shat it.

Couldn't be arsed with any of that now. There's a time and a place. That time has gone.
Baird's bar (?) was fun though.

I never drank in there. We would drink in the city centre, not a football pub, we had pals who worked there. Our city centre local. Even if we were over that way, we went to a pub called The Squirrel. But that was rare.

Bramall Lane was pretty ropey. Police herded us into the ground, but seemed to allow pockets of their fans to rain down a few blows. I'm sure this was of course a complete accident on their part...
A load of them were outside after full time, and were again allowed to throw bottles and stones at our mini-buses. Pretty intimidating at the time.

Baseball Ground was bad, long walk from the station with a lot of ambush possibilities.
Had a bad experience there in the 70s after that hammering on the pitch 5-0, Corrigan in goal 1976 I think. Went back to the car and we were wearing scarves, they hurled bricks at us from a broken wall as we drove through them until the services. Car was red from brick dust.

Never had it that bad.

Yes, they hardly welcomed you with open arms, got chased up hill and down dale there once, can still see the fuckers....
At Elland Rd they didn't exactly put the kettle on for you. 'Welcome to Hell' sprayed over the underpass
