Er, don't post here often but I can confirm that I never sang the Invisible Man in the 70s, and can't shed any light on its origins, although I certainly sang the Davenports one. We had a number of songs based on hits of the day ("Shit balls damn, gonna nail that man," to the tune of "Wig wam bam" by the Sweet and "You don't get me I'm part of the Kippax" to the tune of "You don't get me I'm part of the union" by the Strawbs are two that spring to mind) They tended to be a bit long and complex and frankly silly, and most of them never caught on although we did manage to get the Kippax singing White Christmas in February once.1_barry_conlon said:mikeylad222 said:1_barry_conlon said:The song was sung in the kippax as far back as the late 70's i can assure you of that. If you want a second opinion then ask Ged Isaacs from KOTK, he used to stand in the same place at the rear of the kippax at the time and it was a good friend of his who used to sing it. So contrary to popular belief it isn't a new thing.
I knew the song had a history to it, I just didn't know what it was...and still dont lol.
The lad who sang it 'Mick' was a bit of a pot head which may explain it's origins. He also sang a cracking alternative of the 'Beer at home is Davenports' jingle for those old enough to remember,it was titled 'Dope at home is cannabis'
As for the pot head remark - you may think that I was acquainted with the use of recreational pharmaceuticals but I couldn't possibly comment. I didn't inhale of course. :)
Ged posts here, but it's not for me to let on who he is, he may have something to add.
So, who is 1_barry_conlon IRL? It's obviously somebody I knew back then.
