Ipswich Town (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

A bit slow and sluggish at the start and Ipswich had the better chances but then something clicked and we really turned it on.

Composed passing at the back, manipulating space that Gundo and Kovacic took advantage of. Great movement and energy for the full game.

It did. But it wasn't mentioned. But Ipswich fans ironic singing after the 6th went it was - how they support their club, blah, blah, bollix. Not a word about the very vocal travelling support who were in very good voice today.
You weren't listening.

A step in the right direction

We seem physically lifted today. Whether it's down to the upward trajectory we're on, or the realisation City are going big in the market which has made the squad start looking over their shoulders, the running & composure we witnessed today was more than welcomed.

Ipswich started OK, & continued their spirited display up to the second goal, but after that you could see their confidence evaporating like air from a popped balloon. Regardless, you can only play what's in front of you, so we did what we needed to do & managed to rest some key players for PSG.

Doku was my MoTM. I've seen a visible uplift in his output over the last 3-4 games, with increased competition from Savinho on the left, & rumours of more forwards primed to join. He just needs to improve his pressing from the front & his defensive side, & he'll be a complete player.

We're back in the Top 4 for now with a large portion of the season still to play. Hopefully we'll make the best of our remaining PL, CL & FAC matches & end the season on a better note than we have over the previous 3 months.

Sorry but not read whole thread but remember when it Nicky weaver v Richard wright for England number 1 and it pissed down match abandoned.and didn’t Dennis score six against these cunts and that got abandoned as well.sorry pissed
Ha ha! That’s made me laugh. Good memories although perhaps slightly foggy!

The pissing it down / match abandoned debacle was 93-94, we were winning at the time including a cracking finish from Michel Vonk, although when you look at the pitch it’s amazing the game ever kicked off. David Elleray (the ref, for the younger ones among us!) didn’t cover himself in glory that day. The rearranged game was Francis Lee’s first game as chairman.

The “England’s no.1” debate between Weaver and Wright was a bit later, think it was the second promotion season under Joe Royle - 99-00. Was at the home game against them - one of the best atmospheres I can remember at Maine Road that night.

Delap looked quality, the big boys could be sniffing round this window, do we have a sell on clause?

The left back, think it was the left back was also good and tidy.

Quite liked them as a team, no shithousery.

We were excellent though, pleased for Gundo and Erl for his goal, Ederson had a very good game too, an all round excellent performance.

Bit of a guess but that must've have been the most productive PL game for the Academy

Foden
Lewis
McAtee
O'Reilly
Mubama, if he counts?

Hello City Fans,

That was a rather chastening experience for the Portman Road faithful today. Hats off to the Man City players they handled the decent pressure we put on for the first 25mins really well, and then we allowed you to go through the gears and you could almost see the confidence of your players rising. And then some of your interplay was very impressive.

Sadly we just didn’t hurt you when we had any control in the game. And our key man and former Red Axel Tuanzebe is only just back from injury (he came on as a sub) meaning Doku had a field day against Johnson, where the early goals came from.

It’s a shame it ended up 6, I’m thinking we may have caught you just as you flip back to some really good form. I thought your selection today worked really well.

We’re a tight knit dressing room and I’m hoping we don’t have a confidence malfunction. Don’t need to tell you what that can do. We have Liverpool away next, which couldn’t be worse. But I hope some of you saw and heard the reaction of the North Stand to the Town players at the end - hopefully a lift.

Give the video a go below for a deep dive from Town journos into the game, which also includes your own Sean Riley giving a view of your season and Town.

Good luck do the rest of the season - you won’t need it!!

Although we are not back to our best yet, it was a much improved performance. Phil and Kev were excellent and Phil in particular looked very sharp with his finishing. After all the criticism of Gundo, it was really good to see him having a great game too. We also had the benefit of making changes early in the second half to rest players for Wednesday. Our fans were excellent and could be heard throughout the game. Well done all of you. Finally to the 10% who voted for a loss today in the pre match thread, I hope your pessimism has now been quashed.
