I will go straight to point 4. France, Spain and Portugal are all free countries and yet they don't get involved in playing 'big boy'. None of them had any real involvement in Iraq, Kuwait, Syria and every other conflict we have managed to pretend we are doing some good whilst beating our chests like Tarzan. If Iran does go on to be fully nuclear who are they going to threaten ? none of the 3 I have just mentioned but I bet we are first on the list as we are seen as the aggressors and Trumps puppets.. If they threaten Israel who is going to leap up and defend them, again not the three I have mentioned.
My point is, we seized the tanker as it was breaking EU sanctions, where were the other countries when this was going on ? where was the vocal support after ? The Spanish government sat there moaning about Gibraltar being theirs, so much for unity.

France was the first country to launch air strikes in Syria in 2015.
before anyone else.

What makes it worse is that there are reports that the tanker we illegally captured wasn't carrying aviation fuel (which is subject to sanctions) but 'normsl' crude oil which ISNT subject to sanctions.

In other words our actions were an act of international piracy.

The irony is that for all the tub thumping from people who naturally wouldn't let themselves or those they care about anywhere near the armed forces, we are likely going to end up in some sort of limited shooting match with the Iranians and quite likely get our arses handed to us .

Terrible for the poor lads and lasses on the receiving end and all because the British state acted illegally.

2) crude oil very much IS subject to sanctions.

Standard of you though to go off half cocked at any chance you can to denigrate the UK.
 
Weak Government, weak leadership at the top, insufficient armed forces. Poor standing in the world especially Europe over the B issue has contributed to this situation. It’s a mess and I don’t see how we can come out of it with any credibility.

i do get your point BM, but as the tanker was in the Gib straights it was down to us to take it, if it was off mainland Spain we could not have seized it, it would have been the duty of the Spanish to do so, regarding the input into Iraq the EU nations did to a certain degree get involved, remember the UK have a base at Cyprus which was within the radius of doing hit and runs over Iraq,i would imagine we would have been financially compensated by the EU, Trump is another thing although i'd sooner have him and the US along with us rather than our so called friends from the other side of the channel,they cant be trusted as proved with Brexit
