I think most right thinking people won't shed a tear for Soleimani and will agree he got what's coming to him.

What is also true is that carrying out a drone strike at the main international airport of a 3rd party sovereign state, a country that is supposed to be an ally, is fucking mental. By all means bomb the **** if he is visiting militias he's supporting in Syria, but even then make sure that the consequences have been thought out and planned for.

Tbf the US took out Solemaini while he was in the company of several militia officials and an important militia leader so I doubt they will regard the strike as a failure in respect of timing.

Maybe in hindsight taking out a hateful figure like Soliemani was the "right thing to do" and the Iranians should now look upon themselves in shame that they ever gave a person like him so much power and influence to commit the horrific acts that he did, before he pushed too hard against an advisary that he shouldn't and got his comeuppance, NOT blame the Americans for eliminating a known threat who was actively working on creating more atrocities against them and their citizens.

A further point. The troubles in the Middle East really kicked off in the 80s. Anyone living in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Israel may well feel like it's a War. And a lot longer than WW2.

I never said it is nor isn’t. The war in 1948 was a pretty damaging one, I’d say things really kicked off then.

My point is to be objective, yes the British and American and French for that matter, have fucked things up and made mistakes and innocent people have died as a result and we should feel some shame, as a country, not individually, but let’s not pretend we’re on the same level as some regimes and terrorist groups in the region.

Had this General done what he had in our armed forces, he’d have been the worst for at least half a century, probably much longer.

It's not the timing that's in question, it's the location and the ill-considered consequences. If it was done at Heathrow Airport without informing the UK government we'd rightly be apoplectic about it like the Iraqis are.
