Would he stand up to people for bullying someone else - he doesnt strike me as that sort of person! Listen to him in his regular interviews on Manchster Radio and he is a quietly spoken gentle sounding guy, would this type of person stand up to bullys?

As ive said i think Ireland is a genuine good guy and seems to put his heart and soul into his football career, he has done exactly that so far with City so i think there is defo something that has gone on to stop him doing that for his counrty cos otherwise i think he would be 100% with them!

superman has had problems with the Irish set up since under age. It goes back to a few years ago under Brian Kerr when he was breaking in the City team.

He was asked to come over and play by Kerr in a friendly in Cobh in his hometown and Stevie said no as he breaking in the City team.

I think Kerr and Pearce convinced him to come over and Kerr left him on the bench for the game in front of all his mates and family in his hometown, I think that is where all this started, or so I have heard.

Anyway for what it's worth I think Mr.Ireland will be wearing the green jersey in September.

Good points Dan but remember it was Dunne who confronted Barton after the row with the teenage Everton fan in Thailand which just shows he's step in when needs be!

I also think our things may have gone a bit over the top by some of the players but I think it's a culmination of factors in relation to Stevie's absence. As alluded to by Sdavros in theprevious thread, he had problems with Kerr too. Maybe he's just said enough is enough. He probably has a lot of negative feeling surrounding issues with the national team now in stark contrast to his popularity with all things City.

It's a bloody terrible situation. Get Ireland and Stephen Reid in that midfield and we've a decent side.

Given would be more of a voice in the Irish camp then Dunne, both are pretty vocal, everyone gets the piss taking out of them, if it's not happening then you should be worried, this bullying crap is bullshit, and tbh other players like Given, like Dunne, or the management or whoever..etc wouldn't put up with it either.
I think it's just Ireland not wanting to play for his country and looking for an excuse.
He pulled down his shorts in front of a massive crowd and tv cameras..etc. He's not that sensitive.

And people want him back, will there be a sense of it's unfair if he comes back and someone who's worked hard, looses their place, after helping Ireland this far in their group, yes, probably, but that'll probably go in the space of 5 seconds if he plays well.
I mean, he's problems with the Irish set up, the FAI in general, so what so did Roy Keane and he played, was sent home (didn't leave outta choice like Ireland, he was the best player and most succesful player in that squad and he didn't have any sense of superiority like Ireland seems to.) and then came back. And I don't think there's anyone out there who hates the FAI more.

i've read plenty of threads on 606 discussing stephen ireland and the majority of them were stating what a disgrace ireland is and how he should never wear the shirt again. start a stephen ireland thread on there and all the wankers come out of the woodwork
