Hi matey, does this chap have any track record do you know ? Clearly this is going to happen as cant see Mancini sticking his neck out as he did on Saturday if Thursday isnt going to be the day

Not got a clue Mark, looks like its going to happen tho bud!

Would genuinely be sorry to see Stevie go, but as a club we have moved on so much in the last year or two and the quality of our side on Saturday, especially in the first half, showed that.

Good luck to the lad if he does go.

i feel that we are making a big mistake if this villa deal goes ahead.

will be gutted to see ireland go.

I just can't help but think, is Ireland actually a worse player than Milner? And the answer is no, he isn't.

So what the hell are we getting rid of him for and bringing Milner in???

On last season's form, Milner was better, but that was last season. Next season, who knows. We could end up with Milner playing shite all season and Ireland being the star at Villa. In fact, I would bet money on it.

I dont disagree as such but Milner and Stevie are 2 different players. Stevie is more creative b ut is he as consitant, does he get up and down the field for 90 mins? (player of the year season yes he did, last year, not a chance), Milner isn't as 'special' a player as Stevie but we have Silva,Johnson for that type of creativity.

Personally I would like to keep him as well as sign Milner, but I am sure as a footballer he wants to be playing and it sems he wont be getting that here this year.

I think you need to look at a few points re the Ireland/Milner saga....

Ireland is an extremely talented young player who is creative and can score goals; however he has proved inconsistent, way too sensitive (as said by the chinch and others) and in my opinion quite lazy as I never see him helping the defense. He can really only play in 1 position which is attacking mid.

Milner is a very hard working player and the box to box midfielder ALL pundits and experts said we needed in the last campaign. He is creative, can score goals, he is young, English and can play on either wing, attacking mid or a box to box role.

It has become apparant that Stevie is effected mentally by the acquisition of big names and I think he wants to be the big fish in the little pond, so I say let him go. Milner will give us versatility and hard work and can't wait to see him in a City shirt. I think 28-30 mill is too much but if we get say 10 mill for Ireland then Milner has only cost 18 mill. Good business in my opinion and I trust Mancini as his decisions have been spot on in the last 2 transfer windows.

At the end of the day we dont know where Stevie is in all of this. His form last season was poor for city even with Hughes in charge for most of the games. He really didnt make much of a contribution to the team last season at all really.

If he doesnt want to play for us as a fringe player or wont fit in with how the manager wants to set his team out I am not sure what other choice there is at this stage TBH.

For the record I think this is a vey poor deal for city on paper I would rather Ireland stayed and was given another chance and we just left the Milner signing, they want more than double his real worth IMO and we loose an equally useful player as part of the deal (IF we could get Ireland back to anything like his best form).

Where Milner is going to fit in a city I am not really sure at the moment, we certainly have much better players in the wide positions, in the centre we have Barry, De Jong, Yaya, Viera and even Zabs that can play holding. As an attacking / creative midfielder SIlva is a much better player and I would argue so is Ireland.

So where exactly is Milner going to play exactly and at the expense of whom ?

But its going to happen so we may as well get behind Milner, see what he can do and wish Stevie well. This deal is done and will be confirmed this week IMO.

I think once Milner signs the midfield will set up as

-----De Jong-----
Yaya-------Milner
------Silva-------

With the squads being cut down to 25 versitility is the key which is one of the main reasons Ireland is going. Apart from a straight swap with Silva, Stevie is pretty much useless.

So what happens when Silva gets injured ? or he needs a rest ?

We dont have another player in the squad that can play in that sort of position - except Ireland.

Tevez or Milner can play there but the main point is that if Silva gets injured then we can change the formation easily with our versatile team so Ireland is n't needed. His form was not only poor last year but he reminded me a little of Robinho in the way that he would gladly sacrifice his defensive duties in the slight possibility in may get a quick break forward.

Milner and Tevez can play there. I also noticed that towards the end of the game on sat SWP was playing behind the striker.

If Silva gets injured we could switch to a 442 with Milner and AJ on the wings or a 433 with dejong, milner and yaya playing behind AJ, Tevez and Balotelli or even continuing with the diamond dropping Tevez back and going with Ade and Balotelli up top.
