Irish Women’s Team singing pro IRA chant

Uefa is investigating "potential inappropriate behaviour" by Republic of Ireland women's players after a video of them singing a song containing a pro-IRA chant emerged after their World Cup play-off win over Scotland.

European football's governing body confirmed an ethics and disciplinary inspector will oversee the case, with information on the matter to be made available "in due course".
On Wednesday, Republic manager Vera Pauw said the team apologised "from the bottom of our hearts" for the video.

It emerged on social media after their 1-0 win at Hampden Park which saw them reach the World Cup for the first time.

The footage showed team members chanting the pro-IRA slogan in the stadium's dressing room after Amber Barrett's goal had earned the side a place at next year's finals in Australia and New Zealand.
Kick them out the competition and reinstate Scotland

Is it really any different to England fans singing ''Two world wars and one world cup'' or singing the tune to the Great Escape at German fans / players?
If I was Irish I'd be pissed off that the Irish FA apologised for their players for singing a rebel song.
Lets just suppose the Ukranian side won a game right now against Russia and the players were jumping up and down afterwards singing ''Up the 'UA'', we'd all be cheering them on and sticking two fingers up to Putin with the players.
One mans' freedom fighter is another mans' terrorist. We cant be pissed off with the Irish just because they happen to have a little bit of an issue with the British Government, but be cheering on Ukraine, just because we think Putin is a prick and shouldn't be invading Ukraine. The reason the Irish sing those songs is for the very same reason Ukraine are fighting the Russian army right now.

Having lived here for 20 years, the sky sports interview with the Irish captain was quite embarrassing, asking the Irish if they need to educate themselves on Anglo Irish relations.
I think we need to, we fucked them over royally. But our history on it only goes back to the late 60s and the IRA it seems.
It will never change until NI is merged with the South and they get the full country back. Brexit has pushed that back to the top of the pile here now rather than any gun or bomb, it was all quiet on that front, until that happened.

I'm not condoning this at all - the IRA has always been a terrorist organisation and one which was outlawed by the Irish Government. To put a bit of balance on the matter though, the words to Flower of Scotland very much point to it having rebel connotations. Yet it's generally accepted as a Scottish 'national anthem' in Football, Rugby, Athletics etc.
With due respect to those who have suffered at the hands of terrorists, the Irish girls singing a rebel song in a moment of adrenalin seems to me to be a lot of a fuss about not a lot. There are a lot more important things going on in the world right now. They've apologised, and there it should end.
