I'm a huge fan of Trainspotting the movie, I never read the book.

I went to a book store yesterday and saw some of his novels, Porno (which sounds like it uses the same characters from Trainspotting), Filth and a couple of others.

Anyone a fan of his novels? Any recommendations?

Read Filth excellent read and VERY powerful also can recommend Glue...however a lot of the dialogue is in Scotch! so you may struggle with it if you are a sceptic LOL ;.)

Read Porno a few weeks ago, I think its the follow up to Trainspotting. Uses all the old characters and some very interesting new ones.

It does get a bit hard to concentrate on when it goes to the Scottish dialect chapters but a very good read.

Trainspotting the book is brilliant, the best that Welsh has written IMO.

There is loads in the book that isn't in the film, he develops more of the characters as opposed to concentrating on just Renton.

I agree though, that the Scottish dialect takes some getting used to, you ken!

I thought Marabou Stork Nightmares was his best work. Just finished reading his latest book The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs, definately worth a read. I would say all his books are of an acquired taste but once you get over the dialogue thay are all fantastic reads.

Marabou Stork Nightmares is another classic actually, forgot about that.

I got about halfway through The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs and abandoned it. I don't think it helped that my mate told me it was rubbish but I just couldn't get into it at all.

Trainspotting is a great novel. There is more stuff in it that did not get into the film.
There is a great bit where one of the characters gets off with a bird. She suggests that he gets some vaseline from the bathroom so he can do a bit of anal. He goes into the bathroom and as it is dark he inadvertantly puts vick on his knob instead......I was pissing myself with laughter and cringing at the same time!! Classic.
Have not read any of his other stuff though.

Read Porno a few years back and really struggled with the dialect for the first few chapters, but found myself "getting it" after a while and you start reading it with an accent. Great read.
