Is ADHD made up?

When I was a kid in the 70s there was no such thing as ADHD. Or not that I was aware of anyway. Kids like that who were disruptive were just put in the lower grade classes or disciplined.

That said, there have been cancers that have been discovered between then and now so maybe its just that medical science has found a reason for these kids being bastards.

Unfortunately this is a bit of a poisoned challis because almost anything can possibly be put down to some medical condition, so when does a naughty child become one with a medical condition? And do teachers have to check with the medics before instilling discipline?

Why isn't there a medical condition which makes kids compliant, friendly and co operative?

Dont know for sure if ADHD exists but I would say that If the following things are in place:

1. Love, affection and encouragement

2. Parental (or carer) discipline (incuding 'consequences')

3. Balanced diet which keeps blood sugar levels in check

4. Proper hydration

5. Adequate exercise

6. Adequate length and depth of sleep

7. Decent schooling

8. Adequate and numerous 'things to do'

9. Friends and family

10. Balanced family life (ie lack of psrental and sibling 'arguments')

And there is still something 'amiss' with a child's behaviour then surely you'd have to consider that there may well be a 'biological' reason for it? Some sort of structural or operational issue within the brain perhaps?

To be honest I'm not entirely sure I believe in ADHD , but I do believe the demonization of prescription amphetamines is a little over the top, compared to even over the counter pain meds there's no long term risks of taking them. Whether you "believe" in it or not, there's no denying it helps both kids and adults regardless of the cause of their problems.
