Bit Surprised no one is talking about clichy missing out on WC squad....Felt he did well for us this season

I agree. I always feel more confident with him in the side than Kolarov.

Kolarov's the option if you want to win, Clichy if you don't want to lose. We want to win.

Not always,he's a bit of a flat track..... great against teams who allow him time and space to do his stuff, however, put him against the real quality, who press and close us down, and he is very much our achilles.

Sell kolarov for 8m(ish) and get his 70k off the books as Clichy(HG) is plenty good enough as the reserve to the top class left back we are yet to find.

I still reckon we'd have won the treble(or at least get to the final) if he'd have bothered to have a half decent game against Wigan in the FA Cup.

Was a huge fan back in 2012, but his decline has been shocking.

Sell he's played his part and will be remembered fondly for that but its time to move on in that position.

What a load of crap.

To blame Clichy for Wigan is comical,it was a collective fuck up,however,it may well have been a blessing in disguise as we most likely wouldn't be champs now if the extra Cup games has to be negotiated.

Clichy hasn't been 'shocking' at all,he may not have maintained the heights of his 'peak season' but he is still an excellent asset to call upon.

Your last line is just patronising bollocks.

Totally agree with this

Clichy is a quality player, homegrown and seems happy. Would be silly to sell

so based on 1 poor game, when everyone was poor, we bin a player off? Garbage

Was our best left back in 2011/12 and 12/13, but outshone by how good Kolarov was this season. Still a very good left back and it will count it his favour that he is technically "home grown"

One game highlighted it, but the first half of the season there were dozens of occasions he was torn apart and looked a ton of nerves anytime the ball came his way.

In his defense I reckon Gareth Barry shored up huge areas around him, and this is why we saw such a huge drop in performance from not just Gael but Nastasic and Joleon.

But for me, he simply isn't up to the job of being our first choice left back, and thats what we should be paying for at the rate Gael gets. Kolarov passed him by this season and I'm of the opinion that its not that Aleks got much better, we simply look better with him in there due to Gael's fall off.

Neither are good enough,at elite level,to be our first choice, hence our need to purchase.

Clichy ticks more boxes as reserve for me.

Fair point, but he's the safe/cautious approach. Aleks can turn a game, Gael can't and I reckon MP likes the idea of our fullbacks linking in, hence why Aleks got the nod in the final key games where we knew people would park the bus. I could be wrong, but didn't Gael play a lot more in 12/13 than Aleks, and as champs we had teams park the bus every other week. Domestically we're too good to require Gael against teams like this, and Gael isn't good enough to be a top defensive left back against the elite teams..so for me he's in that middle bracket, which is somewhere we won't need players to be.

In saying that, MP gets great results out of the players so you never know if he can develop him up a level.
